Antec Kühler H2O 920 - USB Connection Issue, any help is appreciated. - Page 7

I've installed 3 (one for myself) and I had to manually go into the Device manager and click automatically update driver after installing the software. After this the dashboard does appear. This issue he is having is weird, ironically, the software is pretty decent.
Perhaps you did get a defective one with a bad connection at the pump or something. Surely you could get an exchange? It's a worth a shot, this is a pretty darn good cooler. Cold is right, I don't hear this thing at all unless I'm doing stress testing and they are in turbofan mode. smile.gif

well i guess i'll just exchange for a new one and see if the new one works

Please post here again once you do. It'll be interesting to see. I believe mine works correctly (the fans immediately slow down and the LED lights up white when I plug it in; antec says that's correct and it should initially turn blue once the software is running), it's just something in my software environment that is off.

To all the people offering suggestions, I want you to know it is appreciated. I imagine it can be frustrating when you give your ideas and every one is met with, "No, that didn't work," but realize that I am not dismissing your suggestions. I wish one of them would work and hope they will for others.

Noob warning -- my first post, and my first build

I had big problems with the install too. The mobo attachment section of the instructions totally suck.

I first installed the software (which includes drivers) from the included disc then shut down. After getting all the parts installed I plugged the female power (3 pin) plug into CPU_Fan header and connected the USB female to one of the USB ports. Because the instructions are so bad, I didn't know exactly how to plug in the USB cable. I just plugged it into the lower row of pins on a USB header which is only 4 pins. Oddly, the instructions show the plug being connected to the top row (5 pins), at least that's how it looks to me.

On boot I got a CPU_Fan error and the radiator fans running at full tilt, and no LED on the pump unit. I tried moving the power cable to the PWR header at the top right of the mobo, but still got CPU_Fan error, and still no LED on the pump.

To make a long story short, I had the USB cable plugged in backwards. On my mobo it gets properly plugged into to the lower 4 pin row of a USB header with the plug's black wire on the right. The power cable gets plugged into the right 3 pins on the CPU_Fan header. When I got the plugs in the right places and booted the box the "Antec" LED came on, the fans went into silent mode, got post and OS boot completed.

Directly after the OS loaded I got a notification that drivers for the Antec were being automatically updated. When this completed, I booted the Chill Control app and everything is working great.

I haven't seriously OC'd the i7-2600k yet, but with ambient air at about 25.5C, the CPU temp hovers around 29-31C at idle, and the liquid temp around 33C with fan at 660rpm (I have it set to begin ramp up at 30C).

With the stock fan I tried the Asus EZ overclock app, and it only got the cpu up to 4.55GHz, I think because of temps -- saw 2 warnings about high temperatures during the OC step attempts. It will be cool to see what I can get up to with the Kuhler installed.

Hope this helps someone.

The moral of that story seems to be, follow the directions and install software first, and things work better. smile.gif The problem was, I removed my stock cooler before I even opened the box, so I didn't know you were supposed to do that first and I didn't want to hook the old cooler back up just to do what I figured was not a major step. Still, it seems like uninstalling the software down to the registry level and unplugging the USB and reinstalling should be good enough. Well, I haven't messed with this lately, but I think I'll try some different USB headers tomorrow and get back after this.

I registered because ofg this thread- Anyhow, I also had a terrible time with the Kuhler 920 and ended up returning it less than an hour ago.

I followed everyone's advice in here to no avail (although I certainly appreciate the insight). It was very frustrating. My machine never recognized any device, though I tried each usb header and verified all the other devices were showing up in my BIOS. This is on a Sabertooth X58 motherboard.

Best of luck.

You did it wrong still I bet... I actually promise. It's too bad this thing is on par with H100 and its smaller. Very very happy with all of these. Put my count up to 4 now. Installed yet another one 2 nights ago! That one is keeping a 2600K @ 4.8 under a peak of 84c after hours of prime95. Average has been 75c. Watching owner play Dirt3, I didn't see any temps higher than 54c on the second monitor. He played for a good hour or so. We couldn;t even hear the fans at all. (ambient 76f)

What steps did you take to install? I followed exactly what the manual said on my first attempt. The "Antec" light lit up properly, however my computer never recognized anything. So then I tried what someone on here mentioned about switching to the lower pins on the USB header. The light lit up as well, but was faced with the same thing.

My third attempt I uninstalled everything, left the USB connection unplugged, reinstalled the software and drivers from the link posted one of the previous pages, plugged it back in and nothing happened as well.

On my final attempt I did a clean OS install (Win7 x64), updated .net to latest version, then applied all windows updates. Finally I re-installed the software off the CD then waited for the "driver install" to pop up, which it did, then I shut the machine off, plugged into the USB header, and got nothing. Then I tried each USB header, top and bottom, left and right configs.

I really do wish I could have gotten it up and running properly as the reviews for it seem wonderful.

After it's all installed and you installed the drivers/software, you have to manually go into your Device manager and right click on ANTEC CC (it will have a [!] by it and its under the USB) and then automatically update drivers. It will straighten it out and the software will load up after that. For some reason I've had to do this on all of them.

The CPU fan error is because the pump dips below 600RPM when it's operating without the software and usb drivers.

Unfortunately I tried that as well- I saw you had mentioned it earlier in the thread. No matter what I did I could never get anything to show up under Device Manager. I didn't even get an unknown device listed. frown.gif I don't believe it's related to my motherboard, as the other USB devices using the headers next to it registered fine.

I'm tempted to go back and buy another one and give it another shot?
