ASUS STX settings?

Thread Starter
Can someone share some settings for the STX?

Got my card today.. but not sure if this is better or worse than my XtremeGamer.

Also, it only came with one 3.5mm jack converter? I have to get my own for my mic then?

Edit: I enabled Hi-Fi since a review says it removes all DSP settings. Seems to sound a lot better now, but still the same as my XtremeGamer. Any ideas?

I'm using ATH700s for headphones.

Hi-Fi basically puts everything at "stock", it removes all DSP and special options. You shouldn't need to put it on Hi-Fi unless you activated any of those things but at least when you do you're sure to get the pure unalturated sound. You also should use the correct sample rate for each material you will listen to (usually 44.1KHz for music, 48KHz for movies...) but it doesn't make a lot of difference.

Seems to sound a lot better with Hi-Fi on than off.. maybe its just me. But still not any better than my old card. I'm using 44.1 KHz for music.

It really depends on what speakers/headphones you use, a friend of mine has an STX too and I have just the DX and they sound basically the same to me with my HD595, however switching from onboard to my DX with my headphones on makes a HUGE difference, however you can't hear any difference at all with my POS Logitech X-230 speakers.

Unless you have some really high end speakers or headphones you really won't hear any diference between a good low-mid card and a very high end.

Edit: when switching between sample rates in the Xonar Audio Center you should also switch in the Windows sound option, it's an hassle and doesn't really make a difference so I always keep mine at 48KHz 16bit on both since I watch a lot more movies than I listen to music.

Have you checked out this post yet? http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/...e#post_6451613

Anyway I'm not surprised that you didn't hear anything. I didn't hear anything either and I've had two STXs.

Hope you kept the box neat so you can return it.

when i was still using the dac on mine I left it on 44.1KHz since most of what I was listening to was music.

If ur insane about quality, you can put on on 48KHz when you watch movie rips but your really dont need to.

I have also heard people say you go to windows playback settings for your Speaker (& SPDIF if you use it) and change the settings to 44.1KHz 24bit for overhead. Alot of stuff is gonna be 16 bit anyways though, unless you have some 96khz/24bit flac rips.

For the AD700s, leave the headphone amp gain on the low setting and ur pretty much set.

Your going to have to buy another 1/4" to 3.5mm adapter though if your just using a standard 3.5mm desktop PC mic.

Also, if your going to be listening to music only, WASAPI via a program like foobar 2000 is nice. Most people can hear the difference as it bypasses the windows audio stack, which some people claims will up/downsample your music...
