help choosing a mobo

Thread Starter
Hey, I have waited a couple months to buy a cpu because I thought BD was coming out this month but it won't be coming out for a few more months so I have decided to go with the 2500k.

I don't have a credit card to buy online and I know I can go get a prepaid one but I don't really feel like doing that.

I have never over clocked before but I am planning to with the 2500k, that being said, if you were to choose a Mobo from this website http://www.memoryexpress.com, which would you choose for $175. I live in Canada and this store will match prices from any online Canadian retailer.

Ok, well

As much as I hate doing this, with your $175 budget you are just short of the P8P67 Pro for $190 which I would strongly recommend since it's a better motherboard for SLi.

In which case i'd strongly recommend going with the extra $15 and getting the pro.

yes, I think I will. I found that mobo 7 dollars cheaper at another local store and memory express will beat local stores by 5%. It will be within budget.

What do you think of this ram?

I want at least 8 gigs.

There's nothing wrong with it per say. I'd like to see some tighter timings than that but i'm sure it's fine. You'd probably only really see the difference with benchmarks anyway.

I found these prices if buying from Canadian sellers (a PM seller is required, though):

P8P67 Pro - $175
i5-2500K - $208

G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 - $75

I'm concerned about G.SKILL's Ripjaws line, though. The top part of the heat sink (heat spreader? what's it called?) is relatively high. Is it a possible problem with a cpu heat sink?

I generally don't care for those types of RAM sticks but G.SKILL has decent RAM for the price. I couldn't find a cheaper price at that speed.

If the top part being that high is a potential issue, it might be enough for me to consider a different, more traditional stick without the higher spreader. I also think I want 1.5V RAM. I usually don't overclock RAM and I think that speed is probably sufficient for me. But, other memory is about $80 to $90...so a bit higher.

I had to use the "Blue Ram slots" but I've since read.
"If running just two sticks", I should use the "blue slots"
So that was lucky
Oh, mine are 1.5v

There Are more pics in Sig if ya want to look
