Penumbra: Overture - can I run it?

I'm not sure if I'm posting this is the right thread... BUT!

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/q.../12145_na.HTML <--- that's my computer currently.

Every time I play Penumbra, either Overture or Black Plague, it loads the intro, but then it gives me a black screen with the music that's supposed to be played in that scene.

Should I update my graphics card? I've tried to do that before, but none of the updates worked.

Please help! I was very excited to load up Penumbra and get scared to death! AND NOW I CAN'T!

I'm Guessing it's going to be the shader model that's causing the issue.

That link lists all possible configurations for systems in that series. Be more specific about what hardware is in your machine.

All we really need to know is CPU, GPU and how much RAM you have. You can just open up Device Manager (Start > Run > devmgmt.msc) and expand the Processor and Display Adapter to see those two.

What is the "shader model"?

The shader model is what generates textures etc.

I had an ATI 1900XT or somethign and I tried running Bioshock, I got a similar issue.

I looked up Shader Model updates (if that's possible) and it took me to DirectX. I just installed the latest DirectX and it does the same thing as before.

You can't play the game, period. Your computer's hardware is too old to run this game. Sorry. Might want to spend some money on a completely new computer.

You need a dedicated graphics card for that game IIRC
