What's the new hotness in $100 PSUs?

Thread Starter
Putting together a somewhat new rig with an i5 2500k, 5850, 4 hard drives, 5 or 6 fans, all the normal accessories. I'm using a corsair 520hx right now which has served me well. I figure I could probably get by on a similar unit, but I'm going from dual to quad so I may as well get a little more headroom. I'm thinking a 650-700w supply would work for me, does that sound alright?

So I'm leaning towards the Corsair TX series 650w at $90. There's an HX 650 at $120. That's their higher end series, but is it worth the extra $30? And there's a corsair 650tx original and v2, what's the difference? Which is better? Same price.

Or should I be looking somewhere other than corsair?

Thanks.

You only need 400W max. Including OC headroom.

Antec Earthwatt EA430 ? Much cheaper .. you don't need 650W at all.

Dull argument .. I have learned from my mistakes. I should have went with a 650W or 550W. It doesn't change anything regarding to OP.

Same here; I get that. My PSU is crap and thus, I have researched it extensively. Your best bet is the TX650 v2 at this price point.

Edit: I didn't even see that you had a HX520 atm. This is more than enough. Save the money and keep it unless you intend to crossfire in the future.

Ah, this is just an upgrade from your current build ? Then, by all means, keep the HX520. It will suit you just fine. More wattage than you currently need.
