Just saw this thread and wanted to offer a support suggestion I used for some shelves.

I use some pretty strong steel rods, drilled a hole into the 2x4 studs, then matching holes in the shelf and used screws to hold them from slipping off. It looks like the shelves are floating on the wall and are strong enough to put several heavy plants on...

This with the 2x4 support my be enough to hold the desk.

actually ended up going with a traditional 4-legged desk. I'm in the navy, so when I ineveitably move in 3 years, I want to be able to take the desk with me. It's a solid oak 30"x8' at 29" tall. I'm pretty happy with it, just gotta stain and polyeurethane the whole thing. I'll post pics at some point. thanks for all the advice tho, i appreciate it

i use L brackets on mine that are screwed into the studs and i have 2 rigs my speaker system and my tv and peripherals. The L bracket mount is the easiest and cheapest way to go. My desk is about 3ft off the ground and is about 2 inches thick.

P-3 pilot at NAS Jacksonville. This is the seventh house I've lived in within 3 and a half years (thanks to flight school being in 3 different locations for the multi-engine track). Hooray for finally getting 3 year orders

Very cool.

I got bounced around the country for school too. SD for boot, Orlando for BEEP, Pensacola for EW training, Hawaii for more EW training, back to Pensacola, then to Pascagula for RefTra, then to my ship. In 3 years. Not to mention all the places for the next 3 years on the ship. Fun times and I would do it again!

Sorry to go off topic and good luck in flight school!

I actually got my wings about a year ago, and I'm finally with a real squadron now, but thanks! And glad you enjoy the boat, cause I could never do it.
