on my CPU, i saw a 15FPS difference going from 3.2GH to 4GHz on a gtx 470 (probably wont be this drastic for you, but there is still a chance)

but the biggest issue right now is the windows 7 image keeps being lost so im having to reinstall it -__- .. (2 times so far).. could that be hard drive related?
honestly the HDD is the first thing that came to mind when you said that the image kept being lost... i would try installing some form of Linux and see if the same thing happens... if it does then the problem is most likely the HDD... if it doesnt, i could be that the Windows 7 image is asking for too much space, or it could also be that some piece of hardware just doesnt like windows 7 (had this problem on an old nVidia motherboard a few moths ago with a friends comp... from reading the specs of the mobo, i dont see a problem though... another thing that you could try is plugging the HDD into another computer and run a disk check on it (also will let you get the data off of it)

In general, no, but Battlefield Bad Company 2 is known to like alot of CPU power, and extra cores as well. The game likes quad core CPUs. There's a thread here somewhere where someone went from a Core 2 Quad to a Sandy Bridge and saw very large gains in this game. A little bit of struggling with a Core 2 Duo will be normal.

Overclocking it should help. You might not double your maximum, but your minimum and average might smooth out a bit (and those two things are more important than maximum). From the percentage numbers given, the CPU is the bottleneck, but not to a large extent.

yup start up and no windows install can be found. i put an extra one of my hard drives in last night, set the two to raid 1. This morning my GF accidentlaly steped on the power cable and cased an improper shut down. The machine was able to boot properly (but his orginal HDD i noticed (in the raid menu) said it was degraded.. so i guess his old hhd doesnt seem to reliable i guess? ive never had an issue like this when building my systems .. they have always booted after an improper shutdown, maybe just need a cmos reset thats about it.

hmmm well the image lost issue seems to be making it hard to test the CPU OC but .. maybe ill do a little OC 3.0ghz to 3.3 -3.5 maybe see if that helps. :\\

Thanks guys! +rep

the improper shutdown should not be any problem at all (unless it happen a dozen times without a proper boot in between)... i have had a few problems with Seagate drives not properly being read in the past because of the oil separating from the disk, but it is not a common occurrence... can you find a batch number anywhere on the drive? it may help to be able to look up similar drives... a few of the older drives also had a fluid on them that became extremely viscous over time (caused the RPMs to slow down and all sorts of other problems, not to mention WD and Samsung used the same fluid for a little bit)... more likely than anything, the disk is just old and aging... it probably has had a few too many bumps and skips... i would recommend just picking up a new cheap HDD and it should work like a charm.

My bad, I didn't read through the google results enough. In that case, pump up some other things to make the GPU work harder.

That won't increase performance, but yes, you can do that with no/minimal performance decrease since your GPU isn't working 100% anyway.

hmm well i know that its a seagate drive that he had in the computer (orginally he had a 1tb WD black but he killed that in 2 weeks... dunno how). It seems when i put my maxtor in the computer that the computer starts up just fine with or without improper shut down. Maybe it could be isolated to the seagate that he has? But if he killed a brand new black (i bought it and gave it to him) and he managed to kill it in 2 weeks... could it be hes killing the HDDs it though something hes doing or maybe the programs he has on it? i know he doesnt know much about computers ..

As of now im using my maxtor HDD and it seems be prevent the image from being lost so i did some OCing

mmkay, i tried a overclock at 3.6 and gpu with a 10% OC which should be acceptable. Voltages are:
Vcore 1.36v
NB ~1.35v
HT ~1.37v
SB 1.5v

bus is at 333-400 (not sure ATM)
and his FSB is at 1600

It seems that when he runs the computer and plays BF (which i using as testing for now) it seems to freeze after 15-25min and requires a restart. What could cause that
