[Joystiq]Dust 514 is PS3 Exclusive [UPDATE] - Page 2

PS3 is better because they'll reach a larger audience and everyone will have the same experience, it's much easier to handle MMOs when there is just one system they need to focus on.

Wow. Complete failure on CCP's part. How could they not want the playerbase from the Xhox 360? That is straight up insane. Coupled with PSN network issues.

Failboat.

A larger audience? What are you smoking... Since when has PS3 had a bigger playerbase then 360?

I'm not smoking anything. If CCP were to release it to Xbox 360, they'd have to pay royalties. And I said larger audience, not the largest audience, and I was comparing to PC. At $300, no computer is able to run any games, let alone an MMO. It's just common sense

This should have been on PC....*** are they gonna do when the PS3 gets to the end of its life span? Or before that, when it's old and out-dated and everything doesn't look so shiny anymore?

With the restrictions MS put on devs in regards to connectivity on the Xbox it was never going to meet the requirements Dust needed. This should not have been news to anyone keeping up.

Have a read of the dev releases listed on the official Dust site and you should be impressed.

Quote:
magine this:

You turn on your PS3, and launch DUST 514. You choose the character you created before, and log onto our servers. You are standing in your Mercenary Quarters. This is your private space and where you spend downtime between battles. From here you can access chat channels, the marketplace, fitting, the starmap, leaderboards, and much more. An icon is flashing. You have new mail in your inbox; a call to arms.

One of your corporation’s planetary assets is under attack. The battle starts in less than 20 minutes and the corporation chat channel is abuzz with discussions of the best fits and strategy to deploy. Losing will be devastating; the surface infrastructure constitutes a fairly significant percentage of the corporation’s bottom-line. A capsuleer mentions that your corp’s fleet has not been mobilized and that the enemy has already moved in and have begun capturing the OCC (Orbital Command Center). It doesn’t look good.

You are running low on blueprints for your preferred fit, advanced variant infantry assault armor, loaded with damage modifiers, a vehicle drop link and a Prototype Light Assault Rifle. Usually your corporation stocks basic stuff in the shared hangars, but this stuff isn’t basic. You worked hard getting there, training the right skills and acquiring all the right blueprints. You decide to replenish your fit from the marketplace. Just one more thing and you’ll be ready: your vehicle. You own blueprints of a standard Caldari HAV (it´s rubbish, but it’s yours) and your pride and joy, an Ishukone Black Ops variant Dropship fitted as a cloaked tackler with a faction Cloak module, two small missile launchers and a shield tank.

This fit has served you well in the past, but you wonder if this time it’ll be good enough. The battle is about to start.

Your heart is in your stomach. You take a deep breath and deploy into battle.
Console kids fighting it out in my P.I modules sounds freaking awesome.

Not sure how impressed I'll be when I log on to find that 1_fuX0R3d-UrMOM and his buddies seized control of my P.I gear for another capsular overnight, but its great to have that added depth and complexity.

You buy a console so you can play games.

You don't buy a computer just so you can play games. The difference in cost between a run-of-the-mill desktop and a gaming-capable machine is about on par with the cost of a console. Gaming-oriented upgrades to said PC are approximately as expensive as the extra cost of games on a console (especially if you throw in the Xbox Live subscription fee) will be over an identical amount of time, at least if you buy about as many games as I do and only upgrade when it's really necessary, not when two games come out that you have to run at 8xAA with HBAO off instead of 16xAA and HBAO on. Granted those latter numbers can shift quite a bit since things like screen resolution, game purchasing habits, and what exactly you consider acceptable gaming settings/frame-rates are can all vary wildly from user to user.

To release Dust 514 on PC and PS3 would mean many consumers would demand cross-platform support. Considering this is possible, they may release it for PC some time after the PS3.

To lose interest in this game, because it's only available for PS3 is pathetic. As a fan, you should see what CCP has to offer before jumping to conclusions.
