Need New Case - Page 6

Your problem is not really the case but your CPU. The AMD 955 is hot. I have installed that on my friend's computer before, and it over heats during the summer time. The stock cooler is nothing, and I don't know why AMD would put that cooler with the 955. You can have the best case in the world and blow 6 fans into it, but your heat from your cpu wouldn't really decrease much unless you install an better cooler.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this or if you order your things yet, but I would get the Antec 300, it has accommodates two front fans for your hard drive and intake for your components. Then I would spend the extra money for a cpu cooler.

The Antec 300 is on sale right now with free shipping for $55:

Why get a mid-tower when you you have an mATX board? Get something smaller and more portable, since you are going to college where dorm rooms are small and you move in/out a lot. I suggest the NZXT Vulcan for $70 shipped from Newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=nzxt%20vulcan

Here is a nice review on it....

You do know that all CPUs are different. Your friend got a rare CPU. What is the opposite of golden? Oh yes, your friend got a doo doo chip. Either that, or you didn't seat the HS properly. Regardless, IDK why your friend didn't RMA the chip. Simple solution. Not many people would say Denebs run too hot.

It's definitely the case because ambient temperature is 30°C in the room which is hot and I can't make it any cooler. My motherboard temperature is 50°C, the HDD temperature is also 50°C. This is unacceptable and definitely the case's fault. I wouldn't want a bigger CPU cooler because it might break my motherboard. There already is enough stress on it with the HD 6950 hanging from it as it is. The Tuniq cooler just looks scary heavy.

Anyways, I'm not on any sort of extremely tight budget like I'm running out of money or anything, I just don't want to spend on stuff that I don't and won't need when I could be spending that money on stuff I do need or want. I already ordered the CM 690 II Advanced case and a few other things I need.

The bottom of the matter is that I want to leave a second working computer behind and I'm going to make it by putting together the Gateway GT5404 PC as it was back in January 2007, so I'm ordering a new case, new DVD drive, new HDD, and I'll put all of the new stuff in the new case and all of the old stuff in the old case and I'll have two PCs, one to take with me to college, and one to leave at home.

At some point in the future I'll also get a new monitor or HDTV and send this old monitor back home to complement the Gateway PC, but meanwhile my parents can use it with the living room TV if they want to use it.
