Well, at least for RTS, you get more surface area with 16:10 which could be an advantage if the game isn't using hor+ (meaning that SC2 actually is better on 16:9...).

For racing, it doesn't matter so productivity would be a good reason to get a 16:10, but it doesn't benefit racing directly.

For RPG's, well, I have no idea, I don't play RPG's (I wrote "maybe" ).

For gaming 16:9 is the only way to go!

It is not just in RTS. It is basically all games.

Not fun to play in 16:10 when you know that your opponent see more of the world. The gamer using 16:9 will see opponentforces a few seconds earlier which is enough to increase the chances alot for victory.

Geez that happens in every game. Will you guys stop complaining about all this? It's such a minimal difference. I transferred from 16:9 to 4:3 because the image quality is better on this CRT, and I don't miss the lost FOV much. Enjoy the game, not the superiority

lawl similar thread to one recently (everyone seems to discuss 16:9 vs 16:10...)

Personally, I would have got a 1920x1200 monitor if there were any in my price range that were good, but there weren't.

I was in the same situation as you (had a 1680x1050 monitor) and wanted to upgrade, and I got the Dell U2311h; it truly is excellent. I don't notice the change in aspect ratio really because my previous monitor was 20", whereas this is obviously 23", so it seems bigger anyway.

I'm just glad that I got an IPS panel instead of an awful TN panel, as the difference is truly awesome. I don't notice much of a difference in response time (ie, I don't notice it at all...), but then I'm not a competitive gamer, and I'm not really looking out for it either.

I researched and thought about it for a long time before getting the Dell, and in that price bracket I believe it's the best monitor available for 95% of users. Only if you're a competitive gamer, want 3D support or just do office work is there something better I think for the price (but even then it's only better for those uses, all round I think the Dell is better).

This I don't understand. 1920x1080 (16:9) is the same width as 1920x1200 (16:10), but not as tall. How can they have different widths in game? I would think they would be equal in width, but the 16:10 would have more vertical space. This image almost looks like a 1920x1080 being compared to a 1680x1050. Correct aspect ratios but different resolutions.
