Does Shipping a Desktop Affect its Cooling?

Thread Starter
I'm thinking of shipping my desktop to my friend, but I was concerned if the delivery process would cause enough jiggle for the h.s.f. to lose good contact with the cpu. Would it be better to just ship the cpu and hsf unattached and some thermal paste?

Oh, and I'm going to send it USPS Ground in the same styrofoam packaging the tower came in and fill it up with some styro-peanuts.

If it's a large concern, use some zip ties to tie the heatsink to the case to prevent heavy jiggling.

Like my friend used to say,

"No matter how much you jiggle and dance, there's still a drop in the pants."

I think it would be better to ship the cpu and aftermarket hsf unattached. This will cause less stress on your motherboard during shipping.

If he feels comfortable reapplying the heatsink you could always remove it for the shipping process..all depends on the heatsink and how far it sticks out whether it will be trouble or not.

I concur. Or you can remove the HSF.
