Tired of multiple servers. HDDs bay limitation - Page 2

I read that link about the HP SAS and my first question is , isn't there a more modern or current way to get the large arrays hooked up? I would conclude along with more current comes more costly but it was stressed many times how old the firmware was with the HP SAS.

EDIT: OK I see the "modern" way is also way expensive.

The latest firmware for the HP Expander (v 2.08) is from Feb 2011 - how new do you want?

And I'm not sure what you mean by 'more modern way' - SAS expanders are about as cutting-edge as it gets with high spindle counts.

you'll find most high-port count cards actually use expanders onboard anyway - at least all the SAS cards do (which is all the recent RAID cards anyway).
