Sapphire 6950 (flashed) OC problems

Thread Starter
Hi there,

I have a Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 flashed with the 6970 bios successfully, but cannot seem to cross the maximum OC values that are supported with AMD Overdrive without causing display driver failure. I tried to use the Sapphire TriXX software at values of 1000 core clock, 1250 mem, 80% fan and 1175 voltage and it would not work. I also used the AMD Overdrive to set my power values to +20%.

My question is this: Am I doing something wrong? Is there something I may be overlooking? The problem seems to be with TriXX, but I have no other means by which to increase my clock speeds above the 950 allowed by Overdrive. I considered using MSI Afterburner, but I read that it won't support voltage changes for unlocked 6950 cards, let alone cards that aren't MSI branded.

Please let me know what you think, and if you can come up with any possible solutions it would be greatly appreciated. I have spent days on end trying to figure this problem out, to no avail. Please help me overclock.net users! You're my only hope!

Try the catalyst mod/hack, however 1000 core on 1.17v is too little voltage wise.

I may give this a try, thank you. Just as another option, do you figure that if I raised the voltage levels in TriXX I could get it to work properly? Could that have been the problem after all? If so, what voltage would you suggest I try?

1k on the core usually needs around 1.25v. Your mem is woefully low though, tried pushing that up at all?

I'm actually using it for bitcoin mining. Apparently keeping the memory values low helps with power consumption and heat. All I really need is the clock speed up basically. If I end up using my GPU for games I usually stop mining and can put the memory back up.

Thanks for the voltage advice. I'll try it tomorrow and let you know if it helps to solve the display driver issue.

Yup, the voltage increase seems to have solved my problem. Thanks for all the help! Now to figure out a liquid cooling solution... This damn thing runs so hot! Lol.
