Is pure distilled water ok for WC loop ?

Thread Starter
Hi guys
I just wanted to ask , is pure distilled fine to use in a wc loop without any additives ?
I dont really want to use coolant and I cannot find Biocide or Kill Coils in South Africa
What are the pros and cons of just using pure distilled water ?
Thanks

You will probably get some sort of algae growth and eventual gunk buildup over time using only distilled. But in the short term nothing bad will happen. It doesn't have to be a "kill coil". I'm sure any piece of pure silver will do. The kill coil probably just has a better surface area relative to the amount of silver used.

Using opaque tubing should help cut down on algae growth since algae is a photosynthetic organism (gets it energy from light).

^^^this

try looking for aquarium algae control. I've heard some will work and have no issues with copper and nickel (<avoid EK nickel).

Well the block in the Rasa kit in made of copper and acetal so there would be no corrosion right ? I could get some pure silver somewhere I suppose

Hey Nyt Ryda,

Just discussed it here XSPC Rasa 750 Owners Club, come join the club.

Short answer is not always, as too strong a coolant can damage the rubber gaskets, fitting and other PC water cooling parts.

I found a KillCoil in a SA store
Where would I put something like this ? Will it work fine with the 7/16" ID x 5/8" OD tubing that my Rasa kit comes with ?
Will distilled water not corrode copper or acetal ?
Thanks
Edit: link doesnt seem to work so I removed it but it says

iandh's KillCoils are approx. 1.3g of pure anti-algae/antimicrobial a** kickery in the form of 0.999 fine silver! The tightly wound helical shape (about 11.4mm OD) lends itself to easy insertion into tubing and many reservoirs while, at the same time, being just large enough to prevent passing through fittings and into your cooling components.

By placing silver into your loop your algae days are over! Use the name you know and trust..... KillCoils!

What about Nuclease free water? That could work. I mean like we use it for PCR so it has to be 100% pure basically.

Everything else is not sterile though so it defeats the purpose of using sterile water. But if one could properly sterilize the entire loop a biocide would not be needed.

The kill coil should remain inside you reservoir.
