In need of a board...

Thread Starter
I've been looking all night and so far I really can't get what I'm looking for.

I need a new board as my old one met with some... problems...
Simply put the PCI 2.0 slot bent with the card still in it to the point where the board no longer posts. Yes, I realize that the force that did that was insane, but anyway.. (Oh, and somehow the card still runs fine.)

So, I need a board that has the following:
Must have at least 6 SATA ports
Must have 2 PCI slots (that can actually be -used- around a modern decent video card)
Preferred: (Ordered based on importance)
Really good OC potential (No core unlocking needed)
SATA 6.0
USB 3.0
2 PCI slots for future SLI
socket AM3+ for future processors

I -want- to pay around a hundred for it, but I really see it going up somewhere in the 140s. I'm not looking for a super high end motherboard here, just something to get this stuff done.

I have plenty of airflow, a 750watt corsair PSU, Aftermarket HSF, so no worries on the OC end just so long as the board is good for it (8+2 power, etc) Also RAM is corsair 1600. 8 gigs 8-8-8-24. No direct cooling, but I have spreaders.

Now the reason I'm coming here is because every time I find a board that seems perfect -one- thing won't be right. I'll find a board with USB 3.0 and SATA 6.0, it'll be 8+2 power, but it'll have 5 SATA ports.

It'll have everything except only 1 PCI slot, or a slot won't be useable due to video card HSF.

I get that with the introduction of high capacity HDDs the need for SATA ports has dropped, and that PCI cards are getting outdated, but It's -really- getting annoying that I can't get a decent number of SATA ports (imo 6 is a minimum a board should have, with an average of 7+) I know the transition to USB 3.0 and SATA 6.0 is really just getting into swing, but really it should go faster.. I wasn't planning on getting a new MoBo for a while for this exact reason, but fate tends to be a terrible woman.

You might wanna post your rig first. Since AM3+ support is low on your list, you might have a few options, but if you're talking a $100-$140 budget, it might be hard. I'd think that any decent 880G or 890GX board would fill most of your wants, but if you're to find a 890FX board, you'll have to pay a bit more.

ASRock 890FX Deluxe4 $144.99 on Newegg
Got everything I think, but don't know about overclocking.

The Asus M4A88TD V USB3.0 Its quite a good motherboard. It can OC quite good. And it has all the spec you asked for. But I'm not sure about the Am3+ Part.

I don't like the SATA port placement. Horizontal > Vertical, although since it's not behind a PCIe x16 slot, it shouldn't pose a problem. But it won't look as pretty, and I'd imagine there might be some possible routing headaches depending on whatever case OP has.

Yea but he wants one preferably for SLI, which means that none of the boards out today that will be AM3+ compatible will fill that void...

Not really... I had no problem routing the sata cables at all. But I agree, Horizontal>>>Vertical all day long.

Herp how did we forget that the old chipset doesn't support SLI natively...
So solution:
Get 800-series motherboard and use the SLI hack
OR
Wait and spend a bit more on a 900-series chipset. AM3+ still supports AM3 cpu's, right?

SLI isn't top priority here. I won't be heartbroken if I can't get it. And like I said I've come to terms with the fact that I probably won't get every feature that I've listed above. As to system specs, sorry I haven't posted before now about them. It was 5 in the morning when I posted before and I wasn't thinking about it. And I'd have updated the thread before now but I'm rather limited with my computer access for obvious reasons...

Thermaltek 750w Modular PSU
AMD Phenom II (Deneb I think?) Black Edition I think I got the 3.2 GHz quad. It doesn't matter, all the black edition quads of the type are the same processor with different native OC. The point is it's already unlocked.
Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 460 1 gig DDR5. I wanna say the shader clock is 890, but I can't confirm without looking.
8 gigs (4x2) Corsair DDR3 1600 RAM. Timings are listed in OP.
Random assortment of SATA hard drives.
I'd tell you my mobo, but it doesn't really matter anymore does it?
Doubt you need my case. Well, my new coming case.. my old one met with an unfortunate end in the same accident that befell my motherboard.

Oh, and just for those interested, not only is the PCI 2.0 slot bent..more like twisted actually, the right 2 most RAM slots are also bent (at a slant). My poor computer ;.;

Also, tell me a bit more about the 900 series. And from everything I've seen, yes the AM3+ socket still supports AM3. It just has an extra pin spot that doesn't have to be used according to my understanding. This keeps AM3+ CPUs from going in an AM3 socket, but not the other way around.

Oh, and one last thing. Sorry, I did mean Dollars (US). Being the terrible American I am I do make assumptions about things like currency. I apologize for that.
