Video trimming software

Thread Starter
Hey all, I'm trying to find a simple program to trim some videos without a lot of hassle, time, or money (if possible).
Here is the story:
I have an ION VHS recorder that I am using to record my VHS tape collection into my server for storage. After digging out things I find that I have probably close to 500 movies on tape with a lot of tapes having 2 or 3 movies on each.
Now I certainly don't want to sit here and watch each movie so that I can stop it at the right time so I usually end up with anywhere from a couple of minutes to a long time at the end of the recording.
I have Sony Vegas Movie Studio Pro 9 that I can use but it takes almost as long to render a movie as it takes to record one!
I really need something to just trim the dead space out from the recordings, nothing more.

Any body got a good solution that doesn't take too long to do a trim?

TIA

Bill

DOH! Guess that would help some.

The ION software saves them in .mpeg format.

Well it is an easy to use program but it only saves in .avi format which is not good.
A .MPG file of 5GB translates to a .AVI file over 17GB!!

Guess I will have to keep looking, but Thanks.

Just as an update to this thread, I have found a program that seems to work quite well for trimming.

You can give a look at EasyMPEGMX and see if it will work for you. I used it to trim down 10 videos so far (that is all the free trial will do, but the program is only $30).
I just got the URL for the program and see that they have a freeware version of the program called Easy MPEG Lite which I will see how it works. Cool if it can do the trimming like the regular version which has a very small footprint and is fast and very easy to use. It does not appear to cause any significant lose of video during the remake of the trimmed video either.

Anyway, here you go if you are looking for a trimming program that is nice:

11:32 update - Well EasyMPEG Lite can't do MPEG2 videos so it is out.

Trying out another program called Free Video Dub at the moment and will see what it can do.

So it looks like Free Video Dub:

http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products...-Video-Dub.htm

is the winner so far.

Fast, Easy, and Free! So it wins on most all counts and it works great so far. I have trimmed up 15 video files so far and this program is working just as I want.

If you are looking to trim mpeg files, take a look no further and get this one.
