When will 1600p will become mainstream?

Thread Starter
As title says.

Its kinda hard to find a monitor that supports 1600p (2560x1600) and even if one exists its very expensive, like over $1000. Does anybody know when will 1600p will become mainstream and cheaper? Would prefer to see a bigger monitor that supports at least 1600p.

Probably never. It's a huge resolution and not every turd bird needs that, more of an enthusiast monitor, kinda like watercooling.

Even 1080p is not mainstream yet.

It has to do with the way content is being filmed now and the "need" for more resolution.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_resolution

This is a great read through and will give you a great understanding of resolution.

2560x1440 and 4k seem to be more popular.

Yeah I can't see movies and T.V. going much past 1080p... People do not look good in HD and forget about HD pron (think what you want it's still multi billion dollar driving force).
Videogames and computers sure but it will not advance very fast with such a small demand.

Do we really need that resolution ? A Bluray movie at 1080p looks flawless on my 50" plasma TV so there's really no use for it unless it's a 100" screen or something.
For people with good vision, even 1080p seems to be lacking on a 25" computer monitor once you get used to it. I dont think the technology is too far out of reach, i think its that a monitor of that res isnt needed by most people. I mean, face it. Look at the pixel density of say, an iphone 4. The screen is buttery smooth. Couldnt we all benefit from having the same pixel density on a computer monitor?
