The special format would be for the Wii games.... Not movies....

If these specs are true, I might have to prepare spare trousers for the conference.

Look at application usage alone without the OS, nearly no games go under 1GB...It's the main reason console games look and sometimes play worse than PC games these days...Plus having more RAM means more stuff can be done (Eg. TES could have living cities due to being able to process more at once) and doesn't cost much, so why not do it?

PlayStation 3's Cell CPU achieves 230.4 GFLOPS single precision float[3] and 100 GFLOPS double precision.[4] The PS3 has 256 MB of Rambus XDR DRAM,
NVIDIA G70 (previously known as NV47) architecture. The GPU is clocked at 550MHz and makes use of 256 MB GDDR3 RAM clocked at 700 MHz with an effective transmission rate of 1.4 GHz
The Cell CPU is never used well and hard to program for, hence while it may get 230GFLOPS sp when used with code that works properly on it, it may end up being more in line with a normal CPU (Around 50GFLOPS) in real world.

That G70 GPU is completely owned by an 8800GTX, let alone a GTX 260. (Around the area of the GPU they'd use if this is true.)

And it's limited dramatically by it...Hence why I'm wondering why it only has 512MB RAM, it wouldn't be that good for the long term.

Except this isn't competing with the PS3 and Xbox 360, it'll be competing with the next gen consoles, 1GB RAM is perfect for a console now, as is 1GB vRAM.

RV770 would be decent as shader performance isn't the limitation these days for most games, just vram is (for consoles).

I see there being a very little amount of actual difference between PC and Console for the next gen in terms of graphics, just kinect/move/controllers vs keyboard and mouse and mods vs no mods.
