Thread Starter
just as an added note, im using the stock phenom II heatsink, and have a 220mm intake fan on the side of my case blowing air over the motherboard.
do these temps seem ok...?

I had TWO 870A-G54 motherboards blow up on me (first without heatsinks, then with heatsinks). The first was exchanged at the store, the second was RMA'd. The big issue is that these boards DO NOT report CPU voltage correctly. If you have Turbo Boost enabled (which runs at a higher voltage, lets say 1.45v) and you bump up the voltage +0.2v in BIOS (let's say from 1.2v to 1.4v), it will actually bump up the voltage to 1.65v and fry the board when you try to stress test it.

Anyway, I am able to run my third one with a 1055T seriously undervolted (1.12v) at 3.5ghz, perfectly stable, turbo boost set to 3.875, also stable. I think I got lucky with the processor.

Kingnog: This motherboard fails frequently with such high power consumption processors incl. the x6. You should swap motherboards if at all possible. Can you provide more details as to each failure incident? I'd like to make note of it in the "List of confirmed VRM failures" in my "About VRMs & MOSFETs" thread (see sig) i.e. what speeds & voltages, what cooling

Also, I have a question... going by info from both this post and an older post of yours, your second motherboard failure on the 870A-G54 failed with the 1055T at stock speed AND despite added VRM cooling. Is this right?

The same turbo boost thing happens on my 790X mobo. Turbo boost should really be left disabled if you are going to overclock or overvolt in any way, it makes things super risky.

Yes, my second one blew up at stock speeds and voltage. That's why I undervolted, it seems like the only way to run an x6 safely on this motherboard. Unfortunately I can't remember all the details of the first try, It was somewhere around 3.8ghz and 1.45v. Temperatures were fine, but there was a plastic burning smell during a stress test, and then it went "pop" with a spark.
