Newegg Koss PortaPro $24.99

Hi everyone,

I was looking to replace my earphones which I lost on an airplane ride back home, and when I was doing my research I decided I wanted to get the Koss portapro's as my brother has one and we both love it. I found these two deal's on newegg, they look like the same product, but one deal is much cheaper then the other.

Listed as Koss 174706 portapro for $24.99: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826263103

Listed as Koss Porta Pro 08 for $41.99: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826263033

Obviously I would be happy to get a koss portapro for 24.99, but in no way would I sacrifice a cent less then the 41.99 for the other one if it means I will get an inferior product in anyway as 41.99 is already cheap enough for me. Does any know if there is any difference between the two? Any help would be greatly appreciated because I want to purchase one of these two, but do not want to make the mistake of purchasing a rip off of the porta pro I want the real deal.

I have no idea if the two are different, but I noticed that:
- The description of the 174706 matches the description on Amazon word for word.
- No reviews on the 174706.
- The 174706 mentions the case and adapter that normally come with the set.

If you don't find an answer and remain suspicious, [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Koss-PortaPro-Headphones-with-Case/dp/B00001P4ZH"]Amazon has them[/ame] for $32 with FS.

One tangential note: I've had PortaPros for a while, and the 1/8" plug area is really weak. I've broken 2 pairs there (I treat them a bit roughly, though). Putting heatshrink around the joint there helps a lot.

Thanks yeah my brother has done the same with them, 2 times as well, but the warranty service is fast and great around us we only miss them for like 5 days and their back and brand new.

Except for special editions I don't think anything on the portapro has changed since 1984 except the cord. Unless they ship you a completely different pair of headphones you should be okay.
