[KG] Silverstone Strider Gold 1200W Power Supply Review

The SilverStone Strider Gold 1200W is a fantastic product and one we would easily recommend to a prospective customer desiring an extremely powerful, futureproof power supply.
http://www.kitguru.net/components/po...-sst-st1200-g/

If you need that much wattage, this is very strong competition for the Corsair AX1200, being fully modular, 80 Plus Gold rated, with similar electrical performance. It also has 8 PCIe connectors while the AX1200 only has 6, which is a bit silly for a PSU that can easily power four GPUs. However it only has a 3-year warranty (at least according to Newegg), which is disappointing to say the least...

Not liking the blue PCI? connectors, other then that looks good.

They're just cables, they're not better or worse -- the only difference is the sleeving really

The biggest thing, is Enhance really did a number to tweak this design (which is a similar two-transistor forward design used in the Strider Plus units.) The minor rail's vreg is rather disappointing though. Especially for the DC-DC modules used.

While it's in the 3% range, that's pretty common for 80+ Gold units of this caliber (HCP-1200 is the exception to the rule here.)

Silverstone doesn't put a power switch on their units. Why? Well I've never gotten a clean answer out of them. Though, you shouldn't use the power switch. Either hold down your mobo's or case's power switch. Because cutting the power at the back of the unit with one of those is actually rather stressful on components.

That was something keeping me from going with a silverstone gold 1000w. I like having the switch.

How would I easily cut power if I needed to do a CMOS reset? unplug it? Seems rather silly to go from a switch to unplugging if you need to cut the power. Is cutting power from the off-system necessary still for CMOS resets?

I don't think I need 1200watts, but It's nice to see so many of Silvestones Striders getting nice reviews.

Most motherboards now a days (that are high end) come with CMOS reset switch. You don't need to flip a switch on the PSU unless you want to take out the battery.
