Hi all, new and currently building

Thread Starter
Evening people, just thought i sighn up to learn some stuff as i currently decided to build a new computer to replace our old slow thing in the house. My names Coopz and im from the UK. Never built a computer before but have learnt some stuff about the insides of one and wanted to give building one a go. Have decided on a few things for the new build and bought a few things but unsure on some things like graphics card fitting my mobo etc

This is a general home system, not for gaming.

At the minute ive bought a case,
a Asrock M3a Ucc motherboard.
a AMD Phenom II x4 975 BE processor
WD green 1tb Sata 2 hdd
windows 7 ultimate
and ive put an offer on some TEAM ddr3 1333mhz 6gb ( 3x2 ) ram on ebay

not yet got a graphics card as i dont know what to get for it. I dont game on the pc, i have a xbox for that but want a good enough one to connect to my 37" 1080p tv via hdmi for watchin films from the pc and various silly little games on the net, plus video editing and the likes.

so, best i go get reading the forum to see what i can learn for finidng the best graphics card for my needs. smile.gif

You can't run triple channel memories on dual channel slots. There will be some issues. I'll recommend just getting dual channel Dimms. If you need more, just add two more Dimms.

As for the GPU, Pretty much any card supporting that resolution will do it. You don't need a very good GPU. I think U'll be ok with something like GTX 9600GT Or seomthing like that. Maybe a HD 5770. That will be more then adecuate if your are not gaming at all.

first off... welcome

second:
your motherboard doesn't support that ram... just get some cheap dual channel ram off newegg or something

as for the GPU... even if you want full 1080p live streaming you would be fine with something along the lines of a GTX 240 or GT 9800... the actual size of the tv/monitor is not what matters, it is the resolution... if you are going for video rendering, then i would get a little better GPU (and an ATI as they have more stream processors) and the phenom II x6 1100T as it is only like $30 more or so and the extra 2 core will help a lot... if it is just editing as such, you should be just fine with the x4... i hope this helped

Edit:
im not very good at low budget ram (so somebody plz tell me if this not a good example), but here is a set that i recommend and should be absolutely plenty for a home pc

Thanks for the replies people smile.gif

I have been made aware from a member that the ram i intended isnt any good to me. I didnt realise that i couldnt put three sticks in so ive just gone for
Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC10666 1333MHz TW3X4G1333C9A for now.

i got the x4 core processor as im not really a gamer or have a super need for the highest end stuff, im just trying to build my first computer to replace the mrs's old one.

We play films from the computer via the monitor port on the tv to the computer but would like to be able to still use the computer monitor to surf net while a film is playing on the tv.

i was looking at getting this
ATI RADEON HD 5450 2GB DDR3 PCI EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270725888146&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_1336wt_905 i can plug the monitor into the port and hopefully put a film on the tv ( playing from the computer ) via the hdmi output?
