[?]Is putting my computer in a cold room bad ?

Thread Starter
I would like to know if I could do the following :
I have a room right next to a cold room in my basement, and I use this room to game. I was planning of purchasing extra long cable to pass through the walls and put my computer into the cold room.
There is no sign of humidity or anything, it's just not heated at all.
It's fresh and cold so I though it could help out my overclock.
Anything I should watch out ?
I will buy a humidity sensor just in case but it shouldn't be any sort of water into that room.
I'd do this because I didn't buy a case, I think it's not usefull when you buy such a low budget rig like I did and I've got that free cold room ready to cool stuff down smile.gif

Any advice, tips or warning coming from the best community (after Frodo's one xD) ? ( I did watch all 3 extended version in a row -__-'' haha )

How big is the room? A cold room will become warm if sealed with a 400w heat source.

How far away? USB and display cables run only so far.
Once again...

Uhm, it wont help too much at all, but cases do prevent static shock, so it will probably just end up costing you money. Go find a old case in the garage or something...

No its not bad. Cooler room you are in better temps you will get.
Air coolers can cool as cool as your room temp is, can't go lower unless its liquid cooling.

You can't cool sub-ambient with water cooling either. It's just better at removing heat than air is.

If you're able to sit in there without a thick jacket and not get too cold, there probably won't be any appreciable condensation problems. Not to mention, with a decent OC, any water that tries to condense should just immediately evaporate. With caseless, remember to put a couple more fans here and there just to cycle the air around stuff that doesn't have fans, like your chipset and VRMs/mosfets. Stagnant air will get hotter, which will make components hotter, which will eventually counter the point to putting it all in a colder room xP

In summer I put my computer in my basement, sure its a little humid but it's so much cooler that both me and my machines are much happier smile.gif If the room is big enough it should be able deal with the heat generated with only a slight increase in temp

Meh is running right now in a carton box just fine smile.gif
Done that before and I have one old p4, I just think it doesn't worth trying to fit anything in such a junk.

The room is I'd say 3x3 meters, it's not heated at all since in summer it's cold ( When I say cold I mean about 10-15*C under the rest of the house) and in winter it's still cold.
We used to food in there (cans, cereals and stuff) but we cleaned it all up last week.

And for the usb part, since my VGA/HDMI and my power plug are able to reach my computer, I've got a 4 usb port extension that I can use so I'm fine for my mouse, keyboard and usb headset smile.gif I still have room for a usb key biggrin.gif Awesome

Depends how cold the cold room is and how big it is. I tried an experiment were I put a resovior in my house sump...the water that pools up in there is 50° on a hot summer day...and in the winter. Free water chiller I figured. However, it cause a tiny bit of condensation in the first few minutes of operation (not a lot, but it doesn't take a lot) and with in about ten minutes it warmed the sump water up to where it didn't matter. Though as more water came in it cooled off a bit again. Ended up not being worth the effort.

I still want to set up my geothermal cooling and bury a 5 gallon res six feet under ground and then run hoses into my house...but my wife won't let me drill holes in the wall.
