For £460 I could have crossfire 6950's, for £40 more I could have 6970's and they would slaughter my 580! Oh well!
Lol even the two 6950's beat your 580. Unfortunately I don't know of a hack yet that lets you do what your asking. There is a chip called the Lucid Hydra? (I think) that lets you combine AMD and NVidia and supposedly different generation GPUs from both manufacturers too.

Anyways I think the Big Bang mobo from MSI had it... Maybe someone here can correct me if I am wrong? Or at least let me know if mixing them sucked lol

Tempted to sell my 580, it's a bit of a price tag for terrible performance compared to cheaper cards in xfire! God dammit Nvidia, why is the 580 so expensive!? When the 6970 can do almost exactly the same performance at almost half the cost, I just like Nvidia, always bought Nvidia, first AMD card I had was an x800xl, brilliant card for it's time, still runs wow at max settings believe it or not! My friend has it! He's getting higher fps in certain games than I ever did with my GTX 470, it's mental, AMD are definitely the king of price/performance, GTX 580 sli isn't even that good compared to xfire 6970's! For the price you're paying! I hate having a £450 card that still lags in almost all games at max settings, doesn't feel like £280 more expensive than my GTX 470!! Which was actually out doing my 580 the other day in Track Manie United! With 400fps, the 580 had 90fps. Same graphics settings :-(! I know it's not a bad card, it's getting the fps's it should be getting, I just thought it would do better than it is doing! Is it something to do with the drivers!? Seems like a lot of power for less fps than a card with almost half the power draw!! :-/

Um, the 580 is a good bit more powerful than a 6970. It's not fair to compare a single card to two. SLI 580's will slaughter cfx 6970's. You gotta pay to play...

What game were you playing to test the physx capability of the 470?
I know that mafia with its crazy physx processing benefited greatly from 8800gt (physx) to gtx 280 (physx). link not the exact article I was talking about, but it does show the increase.
Sadly there are hardly any games out that require a dedicated card, mafia 2 is the only I can think of.

I tried Crysis, Crysis 2, GTA IV and Warhead, neither showed any fps increase.

As to the sli GTX 580's vs 6970 crossfire, I was referring to price/performance, and for 1-16 fps more with sli GTX 580's isn't worth double the price! There is the odd game where sli GTX 580's really take the lead like Hawks 2 etc... But still, I should be happy with my GTX 580, but I'm finding it hard to when I see people getting 30 fps higher than me in certain games, like Crysis, Dirt 3 and Black Ops. I'd link the page but I'm on my iPhone, sorry :-P! And they're the games I want to max out, Crysis favours AMD over Nvidia currently, for some obscure reason, a single hd 6970 is getting better or equal fps than I am in Crysis!

Backs up earlier statement of cf 6970's almost beating sli GTX 580's. But the 580 pulls away in games I don't care about lol!

You have to test games that actually use PhysX. None of those do. Of course you didn't see an increase.

??? The benches clearly show the 580 is the stronger card except at resolutions that can take advantage of the 6970's 2GB of VRAM. The 6970 is a beast of a card and more than enough for any games at a normal resolution but there's no denying that the 580 is the most powerful single gpu card available right now and its priced accordingly....
