First time builder advice...narrowed down to 3 cases

Thread Starter

I am building a rig for the first time. It will primarily be used for gaming/general use/home office work. I believe I have narrowed down my case selections to 3 options (actually 2, since one is a newegg exclusive of the another option). I could use some recommendations, pros/cons, and basic user experiences if you have had time with any of these cases.

InWin Dragon Rider
NZXT Phantom
NZXT Phantom (Newegg exclusive)

In particular, I am balancing between some pros/cons
1) NZXT doesn't support front panel 3.0 USB
2) Dragon Rider requires liquid cooling/small heatsink to actually operate 220mm side fan
3) NZXT seems to have some poor reviews cooling, and requires NZXT specific fans

Thanks in advance!

As background, my proposed rig:

CPU: Intel i5 2500K
CPU Cooler: Antec Kuhler H2O Liquid Cooler
MB: GIGABYTE GA-Z68MX
RAM: CORSAIR 8GB Vengence DDR3 1600
GPU: XFX HD6970 2GB
PS: CORSAIR HX Series 650W
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 7200RPM
SSD: Crucial M4 128MB

Have you considered Silverstone's Raven cases? I had about the same options as you + Fractal Pearl, and went with the Raven for strong cooling .

Hey you can look at my build on my profile I took some pics. I have the dragon rider and its a pretty good case. I'm not gonna lie there are a few imperfections but I don't even mind.

The only plastic on the case is the front bezel, the entire side panel is mesh for tons of fans, its big and has tons of room for modification. Also the thing about the 220 mm fan I easily unscrewed it and moved it down and just screwed it through the mesh. The screws are black so you really don't even notice and now I have a 220 mm fan on my GPU (the 220 is huge and moves a TON of air!)

The cons that I have with it are that the dust filter for the PSU is on the inside and this is just a mistake on the case. I just blow air through the back of the PSU and it works fine getting the dust out. This case only has a dust filter for the PSU and semi filters for the front HD fan so the fans on the side move a ton of air and consequently alot of dust. The cable management is pretty good just wish the holes on the side had rubber grommets.

All in all I absolutely love the case and I used it for my first serious build as well. I enjoy that not that many people have them and to me it looks amazing. Hope I helped!
