Overclock Cheat Sheet

Thread Starter
I know, I am lazy for not digging up the information, but looking for a cheat sheet of solid overclock settings for my system. Stats are as follows:

Mobo: Asus Ram3 Extreme, Current Rev
CPU: Intel i7 980X 6C2
Mem: 12GB Corsair Dominator GT PC3-16000 (3x4GB)
PSU: Cooler Master 1200W Silent Pro Gold
DSK: 240GB OCZ RevoDrive X2 PCI-e x4 SSD Raid-0 (Boot & OS)
DSK: 4 x 1TB WD Carver Black 32MB 7200RPM SATA-300 Raid-5 (Data)
VDO: 2 x Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 6970

Loop 1 Cooling:
XSPC H20 720 Dual Bay Res+Pump (3.1 Gpm)
EK 360 Rad with six low rpm fans in push/pull
EK Supreme HF CPU block
EK Asus Ram3 Extreme Chipset block
1/2" ID 3/4"OD Anti-Kink Tubing (UV Red)
Bitspower Fittings (Black finish)

Loop 2 Cooling:
Swiftech MCP355 (2 Gpm)
EK 240 Rad with two mid-rpm fans pushing
Bitspower 250ML Intercase Water Res
EK FC6970 Video Card Waterblocks (two)
EK SLI Crystal 2-Slot Bridge
1/2" ID 3/4"OD Anti-Kink Tubing (UV Red)
Bitspower Fittings (Black finish)

I am running idle around 20C-23C with 25-28C case temps - so I assume I can get a beast of an overclock both on the CPU and video cards.

Increase the core voltage to 1.4V, put the CPU multiplier at 33 and reboot.

If that don't work, then give it some mo'

why do you need to state everything in your loop? what could that possibly have to do with OC settings?

Just increase the vcore to 1.4v like stated and increase the multiplier until its not stable. You can pull off 4.5ghz stable most of the time with your CPU, bump the BLCK to 150 or 160.

Like I said, it was a lazy question, and sure throwing more voltage and jumping the multiplier is easy. At least no one suggested using EasyOC or something. I am looking for a larger jump, at least 5Ghz with HT.

As for going into detail on the parts, more information is better then less, especially when some of my clients consider a Corsair H20 as being hard core cooling - so me just saying its water cooled seemed too vague.

As for my money being larger then my sense, don't be hating the player just because it takes you years to save up for parts. Besides, only stupid people don't ask questions, even if they are to lazy to look up the answer on other posts.

Lastly, just because I asked my first question since Nov 2008, doesn't mean I am a novice - I have been hurting computer hardware since 1989!

Well, there was no price jump for me, since we picked up the processor from a bulk auction of computer equipment that I typically refurbish for resale.

Primary use is a show car for my computer store, which is also why I did so many mods to the case and custom lighting effects. It stops a lot of the mall traffic with questions - my favorite being "is that what computers look like on the inside."

On a secondary side, other then a few vitual workstations and servers for development projects, I do use Solidworks, AutoCAD and some other electrical board design software - along with occasional getting onto Hello Kitty Island Adventure using ultra settings.

Mewo.

5Ghz on water is a bit of a stretch, can probably get to 5ghz but will take a fair bit of voltage (probably ~1.5v+) & run pretty hot, not sure if you will want to load up all the cores at that speed. A golden 980x maybe...
A nice deal picking it up at auction, when I mentioned the use for it I was reminding previous posters that a PC can be used for more than just gaming.

yea but if you just want it to idle at 5ghz and have a big screen with a big frequency display you can probably pull it off with 1.5-1.6v like said.
