3/8ID and what OD for compression fittings?

I'm building my rig with a Koolance RP452x2 dual bayres with a PMP 450 pump. I need to know which 3/8 tubing size to use throughout my entire loop to use with my compression fittings. 3/8ID - 5/8OD? or 3/8ID - 1/2OD? which will fit onto a PMP 450?

3/8 x 1/2 or 3/8 x 5/8 are both fine. I ended up going with 3/8 x 5/8 for a little bit stiffer tubing.

What about it fitting into a compression fitting, I thought the ID and OD should be the same?

ID = Inside Diameter, the area where the water will be flowing
OD = Outside Diameter, the overall thickness of the tubing

Subtract ID from OD, then divide by 2 and you get the wall thickness

I'm using several Bitspower 3/8x5/8 Compression fittings in my loop, as well as a couple Koolance quick disconnects

For ease of connectivity and compatibility, make sure your tubing is the same size as the Compression fittings however. You can have slightly smaller tubing on larger fittings, but may not seal properly in all cases.

Great, 3/8x5/8 with BP fittings is the one I'll go with then. Thank you.

The inner diameter is all that will matter if you are using it with a stock PMP 450, you should be able to squeeze 3/8" over your PMP 450 1/2" barbs. As others have said, make sure your ID and OD are the same for your tubing and compression fittings.

Just do know that compression fittings will not fit on your pump unless you buy a custom top.

You can also purchase 7/16 ID 5/8 OD tygon and put it on 1/2" barbs. It's sort of a compromise, but the ID of the largest G 1/4 fittings is 7/16, so it matches better. Gives a nice tight fit unlikely to leak too.

Of course, will all tubing, using some moisture or hand lotion on the barbs helps slide the tubing over. Hand lotion also helps wet rubber O-Rings to seat better. I use a Q-Tip to apply it.

hmm, so Bitpower 3/8 compression won't fit on the pump...not sure what you mean by custom top for PMP 450?

Thanks for the advice. I'm not sure I'll use hand lotion near my tubes though for fear of contaminating the loop with foreign substance.
