Help my girl find a laptop?

Thread Starter
Max budget - Anywhere up to $1200, lower the better.

Country - USA

Uses - Mainly work and browsing (2D apps only, no games)

She wants something relatively light with a 13-15" screen, and as high a resolution as possible. Pretty much everything else doesn't really matter that much, she'll mainly be using this plugged in and for working.

Was looking at this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Toshiba+...tege&cp=1&lp=1
I know it's got the lower end processor than the base model but for her uses it really doesn't matter, plus we have a gift card to BB so buying it there would be nice. And hopefully I can swing a free XBOX too

The one thing she doesn't like about the laptop is the screen resolution (1366x768 is too small), and I've never had any experience with Toshiba laptops so any reviews on the build quality would be helpful.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Weight - below 5lbs. Screen size - 13-15". Resolution is more important than anything else, she doesn't care about the gpu.

IMO, Toshiba isn't that good and have build quality worse than others. Have you considered a Macbook/Macbook Pro?

I've worked with all kinds of laptops and the only brand that has really withstood damage, within reason, are the HP's. I doubt your daughter would be throwing it around or dropping it under a moving vehicle.

I'd say get an HP over $699 and get that free Xbox you want for yourself.

For shame! Apparently you didn't read his whole OP. He said $1200 max.

There are a plethora of great new laptops out there for under $1200. Did you try Dell's configurator? If you want something out of a box store, there are many choices too. And don't listen to the blah about Toshiba. My wife's Satellite is 6 years old and still performing admirably.

Let me see if I can find some good examples for you.

Yes I did. Macbooks start at $999 and a Macbook Pro starts at $1200.

How could you recommend a macbook/macbook pro!?!?

Anyways...now that we've cleared that up. I've always had good luck with dells. As long as you don't pick the cheap bargain ones you'll probably never have a problem.

Though if I were spending ~1k on a laptop...first stop would be Lenovo.com

EDIT: Buy this:

Here is an Asus with a Sandy i5 and nVidia 550m gpu @ 1600x1080 15.6" screen

Here is a list of laptops available at the egg with a minimum of 1680x1050 resolution to look at. You might get some ideas here.

Also, are weight and size of particular interest? What about battery life?
