Some headsets have TRUE 5.1 aka 6 speakers in them like my current Roccat Kave's that are breaking down for the second time and want to try something different. Should I pull it on the Trittons?

Definitely not true. I went from a Microsoft LX-3000 (decent sound, comfortable, microphone died), to a Raptor LH1 (OK sound, uncomfortable for long use) to a Plantronics Gamecom 367 (Great sound, comfortable) and the difference was VERY noticeable. None of these were more than 2.0 sound tho.

yeah i went that route. Now I own a ATH-AD700. You will not find a better headset within that price range.

The 5.1 headsets speakers may have more speakers but the sound quality is not as good as the ATH-AD700. You really don't need a 5.1 headset. I see that your getting a sound card, you will hear everything around you with paired with the ATH-AD700s. Plus those gaming headsets break like no other. I had a pair of turtle beach 5.1 surround and the speakers would constantly stop working and I would have to RMA them so much.

I play competitive gaming also. I noticed a huge difference in sound quality and clarity between the 100 dollar pair of turtle beach 5.1 headset and the audio technica for 80 bucks. The audio technica pair came out on top. I now regret buying any gaming headsets >_<

I think they AD700's are smexy, that purple is beastly looking. They may only have 2.0 sound, but the AD700's have a massive sound stage, and extremely clear audio. No "gaming" head set would compare at all to head phones like those. Don't get any turtle beaches, don't get any Trittons or Plantronics or Razer if you really want bang for your buck. Just get the AD700's and the Zalman mic. And make sure to get a sound card if you don't have one.
