Will Ivy bridge require a new mobo? or will a P67 suffice?

4.5GHz typically takes 1.33v - Try bringing down voltages bit by bit and find the lowest voltage possible to stay stabilized before trying to push it up any higher
5GHz 24/7 is not recommended unless you use watercooling as degradation is likely to take place at a much faster rate
4.8GHz is what you should aim for for 24/7. It's come to be the "sweetspot" between thermal:speed
post #14 of 42
YES u will reach 5GHZ
because u good motherboard and ok cooling
but remember don't push the volts higher like 1.5 (this is completely wrong and harmful for your chip)
i think the best volts are 1.45 enough to reach the 5GHZ (GO man GO just DO IT)

You're on water, I don't see a problem getting to 5GHz tbh. Stay below 1.52 and you'll be ok, from what I've read around anyway.

If you do it, do a couple benchmarks, you don't have to keep it up there 24/7.

I did this for fun with everything set on AUTO. Letting the board do all the work obviously has it over-voltaged, but this was just a for fun test run. I did run LinX and it held up like a champ :-P

Check my sig. I was able to hit 5.1 @ 1.464v under 100% load. I believe BIOS was set to 1.51. I was able to do a 1 hour PrimeBlend at that, but haven't been able to keep all 4 cores stable longer than 4 hours so far. Runs fine otherwise

Since then I have dropped it back to 5.0 @ 1.3something and also shed 10C doing so.

running linx with 1.6 volts is not going to be good, I predict that going back to your previous overclock might not work after that. I hate the word degradetion but it fits well for this.

By the way judging by those gflops it looks like your not running the updated linkpack. Go here and download this and make sure you have windows service pack 1 installed. My advice woul be to keep the voltage under 1.5 even if your running water, but don't go ocd when running stress testsing with those kinds of voltages.

This is my take on voltages and temps for sandybridge:

No one is absolutely certain of what the safe vcore is for the new sandybridge chips. What I can tell you is that many say the max safe vcore for these chips are 1.3 region, however, intel states that the max 'VID' is 1.52 and many say that around 1.4 if your on air and 1.45 should be the max if your running water cooling. Personally I will not go above 1.5v for 24/7 with these chip but it is totally upto you. The main thing to understand is that 'you' have to come up with the conclusion of what the max is. That way no one is blamed if the chip degrades or dies.

Regarding temps, CPU throttles at 95c, some say keeping it below 85c is good, some say keeping it below 80 is better, other's say below 75c is really good and there are quite a few that say 70c should be the max. Which ever one your confortable with, just remember it throttles at 95c. I personally am keeping mine below 70c.

Good Luck
