PhysX 3.0 is available for all major gaming platforms, including PC, Xbox360™, PLAYSTATION®3, OSX, Linux and Android. PhysX 3.0 is designed to run on a variety of CPU architectures. Performance can be accelerated by any CUDA™-enabled NVIDIA GPU – including any GeForce 8-series or higher graphics card.
perhaps we will see physx more in games or benefit from physx more performance wise?

Because it's good enough to stick around. Nvidia has been pushing it pretty hard. Its widespread platform compatibility now will only help it grow in the future.

proprietary?

EDIT: With console support, coupled with crossfire+sli available on the same chipsets, PhysX is about to get a much more involved role in the gaming industry!

This is why I bought the GTX 550ti

Some much needed work on performance in there.

I'm pretty sure all they did was recompile the part that runs on the CPU with some new instruction sets. That in itself would of given it a tremendous speed boost and they had the option to do it when they acquired it from Ageia.

I'm betting the Tron: Legacy poster in my room that they still hinder it to 1 core if the system isn't running an Nvidia card. Sorry ATI/AMD users

I kept my 275 for physx so I'll be happy to put it to use
