[Nvidia] NVIDIA Launches PhysX 3.0 With Support For Emerging Gaming Platforms - Page 13

So, yes, it's proprietary.

It's like that one special candle on the birthday cake that shoots tiny fireworks for half a minute. You have to drive across town just to find it, on top of the other candles you already have, and only half the kids actually like it.
Yes, if it was available with AMD cards, it would be better. Unfortunately, I don't see developers implementing it all that much if half their consumer base won't even benefit from it. It means wasted $$$.

Pretty much.

Games using PhysX (looks like about 20-25):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PhysX#PhysX_in_video_games

Games using Havok (looks like about 220-240):
http://www.havok.com/index.php?page=available-games

Also, I've programmed games/engines with both, and Havok is far better IMO.
I guess I can vouch for this. I have used Havok's Reactor on many occasions, and now that Autodesk took Reactor out and replaced it with you guessed it PhysX, I have been quite pissed. PhysX is great, just isn't working with 3DSMax. So far PhysX can only properly simulate Rigid Body physics on 3DSMax, Reactor could do that and much more, ten billion times more productive and overall cheaper (in terms of resources).

So many people here have no clue... PhysX is just a physics library. That is owned by a company that like to market their version as a gimmick.

The proof is there. If you've bought a second card for physx, then you've been fooled by marketing.

Fact!

Now if you run BFBC2, it has good physix without using Nvidia physix. It uses destruction 2.0 and frostbite. So on that sence, yes it's marketing as we don't really need physix. Please note I am in the middle on this one. I think the good thing about physix is that it's simply dam good in some games!

Hi Brad

I've been playing Batman with full physx! And it adds loads more stuff, on the screen
So, not only does it do the physics, it also add stuff to the game too

I dont understand why they dont just make it able to work on ati cards, it would only help them in the long run.

PhysX is becoming relevant.
Metro, Tom Clancy's Double Agent, Batman AA have been the only key ones so far.

"Alice" Madness Returns has it! And not forgetting Mafia 2.

I don't know if getting a GPU just for PhysX is worth it!
But using my Sli card for PhysX once in a while certainly is IMO

One thing I have noticed! Is how my PhysX card loads up the same amount of V-Ram as my main card does!

Playing Batman running PhysX on second card

Dips in fps were caused by cut scenes and also recording with Fraps

wow, im surprised this thread is still alive haha. It seems it's just turned into a debate over whether physx actually makes a difference. All I have to say is, Yes, it makes a difference and looks awesome in games.
