Which of the two monitors is better for mostly gaming purposes?
(Also Surfing Web, and occasionally watching movies)

Is the price difference worth it? (Australian prices, so they aren't as cheap)
Although as far as my budget goes, I can afford either one...

I normally sit around 3 feet away from the screen.

DIFFERENCES COMPARISON:
Quote:
VS248H | VE278Q
Price $269 | $485 Price
Size 24" | 27" Size
Brightness 250cd/m2 | 300cd/m2 Brightness
Contrast Ratio 50,000,000:1 | 10,000,000:1 Contrast Ratio
..Built-in Speakers No | Yes Built-in Speakers
..Picture-in-Picture No | Yes Picture-in-Picture
Power Consumption <32W | <45W Power Consumption
I was thinking maybe the 27" would be too big for gaming it has 5x lower contrast ratio than the 24". Help would be great

I've also heard that the VE278Q often has screen flickering issues.

That is dynamic contrast ratio, not the ACTUAL contrast ratio.

Here's a nice article that explains it a bit.

VE278Q!!!

485 for one is real steep... and then I noticed you're in Australia.
I have no complaints about the VE278Q, they're pretty good

Now I've got something else to think about...
16:9 vs 16:10

Anyone have opinions on which is better? I'm thinking Asus VE278Q for 16:9 and Samsung 2443BW+ for 16:10

Stumped on which would be better. Stupid ratios >.<

16:9 is 20 pixels shorter than 16:10. The native resolution for 16:10 is 1920x1200 where the 16:9 default resolution is 1920x1080.

16:10 w/1920x1200 use to be the biggest thing 4 years ago, but most cards didn't support this as a native resolution thus causing scaling and resolution issues. Since most HDTV's use 16:9 ratio (because it's a big wider, looks more like a wide screen than 16:10) 16:10 was abandoned.

16:9 is better. 20 pixels less but, you're not gonna notice that lol.
