990 is not worth the extra crazy amount of cash needed. An 950 (?) now I think they're up to, will do fine and you wont notice a difference in games between it and a 990. If $ is not a issue then a 580 is a good choice for a GPU, and I'd go with 8 gigs of ram instead of 12, again you wont see much of a difference.

I think you are trying to hard to go "all-out".

Id go with a Sandy Bridge 2600k, 8GB RAM, with the 580.

itll run BF3 like a dream. oh, and you have saved yourself a bunch of cash.

you wont need 16GB of RAM, youll probably barely need 8GB.

Good options here +1. I agree with the RAM too.

You don't need 16GB of RAM. Wasted money and marginal if any performance gain. You running multiple servers?

One GTX 580 plays all my games maxed including AA. Crysis, Crysis 2, Metro 2033 and the 12min trailer on Battlefield 3 was run on one GTX 580. You'll be great for the next two years with a powerful one card single GPU solution.
