Few SSD Questions

Thread Starter
Sorry, I'm sure these have been answered multiple times before, but I'm in a hurry.

I plan on getting 2 WD 640 GB drives to do a raid 0 on them and people keep telling me how great SSDs are. I was wondering how big of a difference i will notice when playing games or running my OS on it?

I was reading this and i was wondering if it would be better to just install the whole OS on it?

Once i have my 2 WD HDDs with raid 0 and my SSD what is the best way to use them, for example will I just use the SSD by itself with no raid?

Sorry for noob questions, but I am a noob.

Any other advise is much appreciated expect =rep for helpful answers.

keep your raid 0 drives for storage ,
u cant raid an ssd in with hardrives, so no raid on the ssd, unless you buy 2 ssd's but there isnt much piont raid'in an ssd as it will be bottle necked by everything.

Putting two 40GB SSDs in RAID0 is the best bang for the buck right now.

  • Crucial m4 or C300 (older) for overall performance.
  • OCZ Agility or Vertex (faster) for speed. Some people reported faults.
  • Intel for reliability.

I personally have Crucial C300 64GB. Never been happier with the upgrade.

Just to clarify. You can have you SSD in RAID mode (not in RAID array), while your HDDs are in RAID on the same Intel controller. It will automatically operate in AHCI mode (best mode for SSD).
