XFX 6970 bottlenecked? - Page 4

Unless you have a 120hz monitor than anything over 60fps is a complete waste and image quality will, in most cases, actually degrade. Also just because your gpu is at less than 100% doesnt mean your bottlenecking at your cpu, even though its is generally a good indicator. Your processor is doing 100% of your physx as of now and it may not handle it as well as an I7-965. Comparing your processor to that one is moot point IMO as the I7 kills it in ever single aspect, not bashing just stating. I would say get it above 60 set vsync to on and enjoy the game. Unless benchmarking is all that your after....

I agree with u anything over 60 is overkill on a 60hertz lcd,but theres alot of people who say were wrong they say when playing a fps they can see a big difference in aiming and what not

Disagree.

I don't fell like writing an essay at 4 am, but certain engines like quake for example benefit greatly from higher fps and or capped areas such as (100,)125,(200,)250,(300),333,500.. etc...

Everything from bullet registration to smoothness increases over vysnc'd 60 FPS, and no, this isn't a placebo effect, but proven fact.

FYI - Temps while running dirt aren't load temps. If you only run dirt and check your temps, you'll run something more demanding later on and have a much higher temp and not know it.

Run prime 95 or lynx, make sure all cores are @ full load, then see what your temps are after you reach steady-state. One minute will get close, five is better.

That proc and gpu will overclock at least some without increasing voltage. This will not damage them.

This is overclock.net.

Overclocking won't damage the CPU if you stay within AMD's recommended voltage and temp thresholds.

The amd guy isn't the one that's scared of overclocking. He's actually seems to be a bit on the reckless side. It's the intel thread-jacker that thinks overclocking will damage his goods.
