Sudden instability after 6 months..

Thread Starter
Hi,

For a good while now I've been running with my PC overclocked. It's running at 3.8 GHZ,

and goes to 4.0 during load because of some boost thing! As you can hear, I'm not too experienced.

Recently however, it's gotten to feel a bit more unstable. It didn't used to, for like 6 months.

What I've experienced is 2 blue screens of death, and 2-3 times of everything freezing, can't

move the mouse etc..forcing me to reboot manually.

I was wondering why this happens, and my personal thoughts are either of the following:

I got a new HDD recently, and when I got it, I made windows turn my 2 storage disks off after 15

minutes of idle. When they turn back on, sometimes it feels jerkier than others.

My second thought is just that now, after 6 months, due to wear, things are getting hotter inside.

I don't know really. I was wondering if anyone inhere could assist me?

I've attached a picture showing voltage, temperature etc.

Thanks in advance!

Ottosen.

Please fill out your system specs into User CP.

It'll be easier for us to understand the issue.

Okay, I did that now. I filled in the important bits and left out bits like speakers, monitor etc.

Let me know if it's not right

Have you tried a slight voltage bump? Chips degrade, that may be all you need.

Add some vcore and test again.

6 months, I agree....take off the side cover and clean the fans off, & anything else that looks dusty.

2 programs that are a necessity to have!

Download and run CPUZ: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
Download and run Real Temp: http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/
Real Temp will be much more accurate with your temps, that Asus Probe.

What are your ambient room temps like? A guess is good enough!
Is it warmer in your room now, than it has been in the last 6 months?
If you can, with the side off your case, plug in your computer & start it up, to see if all of your fans are still in working order.

After you've downloaded and installed both of the programs listed above. Could you post a screen shot of CPUZ, (2 shots), one of it on the main (CPU) tab, and one with it on the Memory tab.

If your cpu is at 1.25vcore, you can bump it up a bit, as said in above post.

I would run some sort of a stability test be it Intel's Burn test, OCCCT, S&M FPU test to validate that your OC is still stable. If not I'd kick up the Vcore a bit.

My case is quite clean. I vacuum it on a regular basis, always make sure to keep it neat. You could say that it's gotten warmer, as summer is arriving, but as I live in Denmark it's not that hot. The ambient temperature is around 20 degrees celcius.

I'm a bit hesitant to "bump the voltage" as I'm not sure if that's up or down, and which voltage. Is that the vcore mentioned in a later reply of this thread?

Here's the screenshots you asked for. Let me know if you want more information.

Can I turn up the vcore without fearing for the temperatures too much? How much should I increase it by?
