help OC'ing it 930 + asus p6t + 6gb ram 1333 - Page 6

well yeah, the 212+ has a 4pin connector. I'm buying another fan for the 212+, wich also has a 4 pin connector, so I bought an akasa Y cable for that. so I'll mess with fan profiles after work.
I'm also buying a cooler case, perhaps this will help a little.

and I don't think I set the ram freq anything over 1600, so probably wasnt whats causing it to be unstable

so I switched cases, the new one has like one front and one side fan to put air in, and one back to let air out, all 80mm fans, but i think air flows nicely. so I reapplied thermal paste, attached the heatsink, put the cooler fan blowing into the flow direction, and I also placed my new g.skill memory fans. a bit noisy with that many fans, but its worth if it helps a little. only problem is the front fan, it has a molex plug, so its really noisy, I guess I'll switch to a 3 pin fan later.

so now I'm just waiting to my blade master to make a push/pull setup in my 212+ (guess push/pull works best and wont mess with the flow)

I didn't have the time to test temps yesterday but will do it later when I get home.
cheers

ok I'm in a hurry, so I just had time to take a quick peek at temps, they're at 33-34 celsius when idle in stock 2.8ghz, I guess they were at 38 before, so that's some improvement. will try some burn tests later when I find some time.

cheers

ok, sorry for the delay, but I was kinda busy, and also waiting for my extra blade master to arrive. but now my setup is complete, and I must say that the extra fan on the hyper 212+ doing a push/pull setup improved the temperature a lot! while I had 33-34º before that, now I get 25-27º when idle at stock 2.8ghz. thats some improvement! ok, the weather is a little cold, but the fan is probably helping also.

So I guess I'm ready to try again now maybe not today, but definitely soon.

I just have one question that's been bugging me for a while. my 3rd core is always like 2-3 degrees cooler than the 1st and 2nd cores, and the fourth is 2-3 degrees cooler than the third. 1st and 2nd are about the same. is that because the computer uses more first 2 cores, or is it uneven thermal paste? cuz I reapplied it like 3 times this month, and temps were always like that.

cheers!

btw I just felt like posting a pic:

Nice. The temp difference is normal, mine does that too no matter what I do. Also i'm now using my hyper 212+ and getting 40C at idle and 80C load at 4GHz @1.3v. But I live in florida and it is aways hot. Good luck!

k, so I tested it @ 3.8ghz, with all fans running an weather outside near 0ºC (it reached -5ºC yesterday, damn winter). bclk to 181, voltage to 1.325, and temperatures stood at 79-80ºC, with peaks of 81. that at 100%, funny thing is that when at 99.9% load, temperature dropped to 70~72ºC

but I guess that's it, this is the core speed I'll stay with, I don't think I'll have an acceptable temperature at 4.0ghz. I have the air flowing nicely through my case, hyper 212+ with 2 fans doing push/pull into the flow, and that's the temps I get. what do you think?

also, what thermal paste you use with your 212? I'm using the one that comes with the hyper 212, it's better than the one I had, and this time I'm sure I applied a nice thin and even layer

I say just leave it at 3.8GHz. Also I use Artic silver as my thermal paste, although i suggest MX-4 or IC Diamond.

alright, so I've been running it @ 3.8ghz since your last post, and it's stable, working just fine.

thanks for all your help sean, wouldn't be able to do this without you!

btw, I have some relatives in florida, if I ever drop by, I'll pay you a beer

cheers
