Silverstone Raven Series 02 Black Evolution

Hey everyone.

I am looking to get myself a new case, so I was browsing around a bit, and came across the above mentioned. Is this any good? I've read that it's extremely good in the sense of cooling because of how the fans are placed and the layout of the interior. I am also looking to put a Corsair H70 cooler with Coolermaster Sickleflow fans.

Anyone have experience with this case?

That case is excellent in cooling, BUUUUUT it is bad with video cards that do not exhaust towards the rear (cards that exhaust heat from both ends) as heat gets trapped. IDK how your card exhausts though, if one way or two way. tongue.gif

Can I suggest you change something else from your system first? It would be your power supply. smile.gif

I have an EVGA GTX 560 Ti. I have absolutely no problems cooling it in this case with the AC Xtreme Plus cooler. Idle is 28-32C and full load never goes above 54-57C. My room is generally between 70-76F. Card is overclocked 965/2150 on stock voltage.

I understand that I'm not using the standard cooler (changed it out in my previous case, an NZXT Hades), but this cooler flows out on all sides. Despite part of the cooler flowing against the main fans in the RV02, you can see that it doesn't affect it one bit. In fact, it's way cooler than my previous case which if I recall was hitting 68C+ full load.

I'm on air cooling, and the temps I remember for my previous processor (just installed an i5 2500k and haven't done anything to it yet) were 36-38C idle and 56-58C load. That was a very mildly OC'd Q9650 @ 3.4GHz.

This case works, and I love it.

This rumor really needs to die.

Yes, I've used non-reference "exhaust out all side" GPUs in an FT02 and no, it wasn't a problem by any means.

I have 2 460s with all side exhaust in my RV02, no trouble unless I fold for long periods. Mount the H70 rad on the case exhaust, it'll get LOADS of cool air from the 180s.

Edit: Or sit the H70 rad on top of the 180mm intake fans for even more cool air.

Hmm, yeah I was thinking to mount it at the top, but if I could some way mount it at the bottom then I'll do that. Going to purchase it next week. Do any of you know the Coolermaster Sickleflow fans? I want to replace them with the fans on the H70. Coolermaster, Deepcool, Vizo and Thermaltake the only brands I can get fans from.

Say that to my Zotac GTX 480 AMP! edition that tops out at 72c in Furmark...

Not your fault, though. A lot of misinformation about these cases.

72c isn't really a temp to brag about.. My 580 tops out at 55c. cool.gif

OT, the rv02 is a great case for air cooling, but a terrible case for water cooling. I'd only consider the rv02 or any other newer silverstone case if I had externally exhausting gpus. That's where the design really shines.

So my ASUS HD6870 with its Direct CU 2 Cooler will run hotter than in my current case (Coolermaster Elite 370)?

I will only be using a H70 with two fans and mount it at the top. Will that still be fine seeing that it still exhausts air out of the case?

Comparing your current CM Elite 370 with the RV02, it is not necessarily that the card will be hotter with the RV02. It depends on how 'clever' you are using the CM Elite 370. Elite 370 is cheap in price but it is not exactly a cheapo case. If you have spent time doing proper cable management and playing with the fans, then it could still be a good cooling case.

I hold the same position: consider the RV02 (or similar cases with ''case-bottom-intake + case-top-exhaust'' design) only if the card is 100% externally exhausting. In fact, this case excels in this type of situation.

Asus HD6870 DirectCU dumps about 2/3 of its heat inside the case via its front (see pic 1). This hot airflow will run against the upward air current intaken by the bottom fans of the RV02. See pic 2 for a detailed description. The card's hot air escape path has 3 possible routes. All are not good in one way or another. If you have 2 cards, it just doubles the headache.

While it is true that 'severe' problem (eg BSOD) might not happen and could even give some 'good' thermal numbers (as testified by some RV02 owners above) for certain cards, I reckon that optimal cooling performance has not been achieved. In other words, if those thermal numbers are considered to be 'good', then I reckon 'better' numbers there will be when another case (eg HAF 932, 690 II Advanced) is used (with proper planning, as internal heat dumping card is tricky to be thermally managed).
