Okay, I got a friend who is looking for a laptop. Her budget is no more than $700. The only laptop that I see that is any good in that range is the Acer Aspire AS5742G-6600. There is an AMD version, but I try to stay with Intel on laptops. The AMD version is the Acer Aspire AS5552G-7641.

What other laptops would you recommend? She doesn't play any intense games, but I would rather her to have a dedicated graphics. Probably the most intense game is Nancy Drew. She probably will be watching movies and browsing the internet more than playing games. But I want her to have the power of a dedicated card if she wants it.

Thoughts??

i believe alot of people have had problems with Acer's. I fortunately haven't after about 3 or 4 laptops and netbooks. I also like their monitors. Most people here probably prefer Asus or HP. i like my Asus netbook and have had a couple of HP's and they seem pretty good. In most cases just get the best notebook for the price and make sure the company has good customer service. I'm pretty sure all the different companies use the same crappy parts from child labor sweat shops lol

If you don't need the dedicated gpu then you can save a ton of money getting an integrated solution.
The Aspire is pretty nice, my buddy has one.. the texture of the plastic is really nice. I was pretty impressed by the design..

I'd reccomend looking at some Lenovos and Asus', they seem to make some really nice stuff along with the HP elitebook series.

They have been getting better. Their desktops are questionable. The monitors are pretty nice. I saw some of their laptops at Costco yesterday, they are stylish IMO. The Intel one is better but have a look at Asus.

My family has used Acer laptops over the past 5-6 years and we've never had a legitimate problem with any of them. The only 'problems' that my parents have had was a HDD limitation with one, and a laptop that would overheat on any OS newer than XP. Both laptops were around 5 years old, and were just outdated. They now have newer Acer laptops, and they both are happy with them other than really minor/nitpick-ish complaints. I just got an Aspire 5253-BZ602 and I'm impressed with it, so far. The quality is better than what you would expect for a $340 laptop, and for the price, what's packed inside, is a great deal.

*Damn good warranty service

Lol, that's actually impressive for any company. You sure he wasn't covered under accidental damage, though?

Nope, basic 2 year manufacturer warranty with best buy, store technician even said they wouldn't cover it under warranty. However, I urge you not to go around knifing laptops...
