8 keys are not working in laptop

Thread Starter
Hey guys, the other day one of my friends lend me their Compaq CQ60 laptop so I could reinstall windows 7 because she wanted a fresh install.
The thing is that the third time I booted up after installing the q w e r and the u i o p keys do not work.

Ive tried taking the battery out and the ac adapter and holding the power button down for 1minute and it stays the same.

I didn't take apart the laptop, just a fresh windows 7 install.

+Rep candies for every help possible!

She's not going to be happy...

Anyway, I don't know what to tell you. It sounds like Windows is using the wrong driver or something. confused.gif

Edit: Of course there is also the chance that something physical is wrong like a bad connection or something shorting out that set of keys...

Boot in safe mode and see if the keyboard works.

It sounds more like a physical problem to me though. If you can gain access to the keyboard ribbon cable (easy on a Dell Laptop, not sure on a Compaq) I would check that. I don't believe it is a software issue.

I haven't ever heard of something like this before. I am almost 100% sure it is a hardware related issue.

Maybe there is a lot of junk under the keys? If you have one of those mini attachments for your vacuum cleaner you could clean it out. My mom does that for me every week since I get cheese it crumbs inside my keyboard smile.gif

did you remove the keyboard?

try uncliping the ribbon cable for the keyboard, and plug it in securely then clip it down again
