I'm going to be building a new rig this summer and I could use some advice.

I will be using this for Gaming and video rendering.
This is what I currently have in mind.

Case
  • Cooler Master CM 690 II advanced windowed
Motherboard
  • Asus P8Z68-V Pro - Integrated GPU for when my I need a RMA or whatever.
Processor
  • i7 2600k - HT for video rendering
Memory
  • 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 CL9
Graphics Card
  • Reference Asus HD6950 - Will be unlocked to 6970
HDD / SSD
  • Western Digital Green 2TB Sata-600 - Storage
  • Intel SSD 510 Series 120GB - Boot
  • Western Digital Elements Desktop 1.5TB - Extrenal Hard Drive
Powersupply
  • Sea Sonic M12II-620Bronze - Modular
DVD Burner
  • Sony Optiarc AD-7260S
Card reader
  • Scythe Kama Reader 2
CPU Cooler
  • Corsair Hydro Series H100 - Push/Pull (See fans)
Operating System
  • Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit
Fan Controller
  • 2x Scythe Kaze Master - One for case fans, one for H100
Fans
  • 4x Scythe Gentle Typhoon AP-15 - For H100 push/pull
  • 1x Scythe Skip stream - case fan

This would cost me €1650 in total (Prices in belgium are quite high)
I'd love to to hear your opinions and suggestions!

Corsair vengeance ram is very nice!

Change the wd hdd for a samsung f4 2tb will do you better in the long run

And the psu to corsair hx750
Nice build, Be wary of trying to unlock your 6950 new cards are proving difficult to unlock

I would change your psu for either a corsair 650- 750w or perhaps an xfx pro version,

apart from that all is good, Enjoy

- Is this the HDD you're talking about? Samsung Spinpoint F4EG HD204U

- Even if the unlock doesn't work, a 6950 is still a good card.

- What's wrong with the seasonic psu? It's recommended by OCN and 620w should be plenty to power this.

Seriously: Stick with the Seasonic!

They're the best out there!

You can still find 6950's with BIOS switch, so no worries there, mate Just be sure to UNLOCK it, and not FLASH it, as the VRAM aren't as good as on the 6970.

Thats correct.

Your right the 6950 is a great card but if your buying on the basis of a guaranteed cheap fix 6970 then you may be dissapointed,

It is a good psu but there are better quality units out there with better newer designs for less money, see my link above

I really don't see an issue with the Seasonic

Quote:
In addition to these design aspects the M12II-620Bronze also has very good DC Output Quality and is very well built.
- and again, don't see the problem
