Sound card to receiver? - Page 2

EDIT: Also, lol, did someone say HDMI is better quality than optical? Digital is digital, doesn't matter how it gets there! The only thing it offers I believe is multi-channel, not better quality
Above 2 channels (PCM) optical is compressed (DD or DTS) and HDMI supports up to 7 channels uncompressed.

None the less, HDMI = 1 cable, optical = octopus of cables.

So... yeah, HDMI offers multi-channel. That's what the article says, that what I said!

The only difference would be that you could use the DSP on the STX if you used the optical out on it, but you probably don't want to do that since your receiver has it's own DSP.

If only that were true, I'd be so happy. It's not though, so there you are. To begin learning about the problems with digital transmission, read up on timing based errors and digital jitter. Digital transmissions have problems just like analog transmissions do. Nothing in life is perfect

I gotta keep that in mind. Right now I have my receiver hooked up to my STX via RCA cables. It honestly sounds fine and great to me right now (very rich and sexy like) I have a longer optical cable in the mail right now, should be in tomorrow I think, so I can try out the difference when it gets here. If it sounds better, great awesome. If not, oh well, I will be happy either way. I still an new and upcomming audiophile so lol. I've probably spent $1000 in the past month getting into the hobby, don't feel like spending much more just yet to get anymore improvements haha.

Definitely interested to see how this turns out, keep us updated with comparisons. I would expect the DAC in the STX to beat the one in the reciever but we'll see. Try to do the comparison volume matched, with 2ch audio, and no eq or processing.

Could someone from this thread help me out too? I may have posted in the wrong forum...
