Help with XP!

Thread Starter
Hi all,
Got a legit copy of XP Pro x64. My PC is coming tomorrow. Will be dual-booting with Seven. I must install XP.
Can I just pop in the x64 CD and install it, or do I need to go fetch SATA drivers?
All help is greatly appreciated.

Xp and windows 7 have different boot loaders.
Are you going to dual boot of 1 hdd or 2

I'm going to dual boot on diff HDDs. This is how I will do it:
Install XP
Unplug XP HD.
Install 7 on other HD
Replug all HDDs.
When I want to boot into another OS; I just boot into it from BIOS.

But please, tell me if my Professional x64 XP will work with SATA :S If not, what do I do to fix it?

I can't imagine it would have any issues with sata.

But I read that versions of XP without SP2 on them cannot install on SATA drives because XP SP1 has no support for SATA drives.
confused :S

Most people are still able to use it fine to my knowledge. Depends on the motherboard. Otherwise, you could always dig out a floppy drive and put the drivers on the floppy just in case you need to have them ready (pressing F6 at the start of the install like it says at the bottom).

Most bios have these 3 options in bios for the sata controller (haven't looked up yours however):
Compatible (or IDE mode)
AHCI
Raid

With compatible it could work fine with no extra drivers required. In AHCI it would likely need you to F6 for drivers on a disk.

You might get lucky and run the drivers from a USB as well, but I believe XP only has the option for floppys.

Xp 64bit sucks!!!!! Get 32bit unless your prepared to go through all the 64bit bugs.

Sata drives are as old as the mountains. You won't have a problem with it.

SATA based drives work just fine with XP x64 edition, if you are worried then put the SATA controller drivers onto the install image before burning. Then if it asks you for the driver during installation you can point setup to those driver files within the CD.

You shouldn't have a problem though.

Also be aware that XP x64 edition isn't as good with application compatibility as Windows Vista x64 and Windows 7 x64, you may find that some of your applications that work fine on both of these versions don't work on XP x64. The OS certainly isn't buggy on any level as others have suggested...
