XFX 6950 flash?

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, my GF just bought me http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150530 for my birthday to replace my dying 5770. I am wondering if this version is possible to flash to 6970 or unlock shader count on? thanks for any answers!

No, only the cards with the reference pcb will unlock though it is roumered that the msi twin frozr III does. Also some of the reviews on the card state that its does not unlock.

Agreed. Several people mentioned that it can't be flashed. And without the dual bios switch I wouldn't advise you to do it.

It is possible, although not plausible.

I wouldn't risk it without the dual bios switch anyways.

Some of the visiontek and power color 6870 based 6950's are flashable. I would try it (i have the same card you have), but I am too much of a baby.

google around see if anyone else has it done, but only cards with reference PCBs can, and maybe TFIII cards, save a copy of the BIOS u have now just in case ur flash fails

Untrue. Some non-reference 6950s are unlockable.

Here's a recent case

Regarding the OP's particular XFX card however, it seems that it isn't of the unlockable type.
