PSU Had Sparks and Went Dead

Thread Starter
Hi everyone,

I plugged in my other computer today when the PSU had sparks then died. I'll be replacing the PSU with a new one but my concern is the other parts of my computer.

Would it have any serious damage on the rest of my computer?

I haven't turned on the computer yet when the PSU sparked. I just plugged it in.

Thanks.

What brand/model was it, higher quality psu's have a better reputation for not taking out your whole system when they die.

Although if it wasn't even on/running and you just plugged it in and it blew then it should be fine.

What was the old one? Unplug it before it does any more damage and remove it from the PC.

Thanks. My PSU is a Thermaltake Litepower 600W and it's only 6 months old. Is Thermaltake a good brand?

Yes, I already took it out. I'm just waiting for the shops to open here and buy a new one. I'm just really hoping it didn't damage anything. I'm currently using a very old Celeron and it's almost unbearably slow. frown.gif

You're probably safe. Can't be sure though.

Don't skimp on the replacement - it won't improve the PC's performance but it'll give you peace of mind.

Thanks everyone. I hope it works out. Too bad, warranty has expired or I'll just get a new one from the vendor.
