I assume you are in Windows 7?

If so go to Control Panel\\Hardware and Sound\\Power Options\\Edit Plan Settings
and click on Change Advanced Power Settings.
Expand Hard Disk and click on Turn off hard disk after. In the box type never and save the setting. I had to do the same on my system.

I have this problem too but changing the hard drive sleep time only keeps the internal disks going and not the external, which is really annoying!

i assume that you just jumped to answer what you think i was asking instead of reading my question ?

the hard drive is external, connected to a media player, like i said in the first post.
