How to get passthrough working with AC3 Filter and Realtek on Windows 7

Thread Starter
Trying to get decode from my receiver not the ****ty Realtek decoding. Passthrough just gives no audio when I click it in the Realtek Manager. AC3Filter just ceases to work it seems. I configured it and I just don't see it even being used or showing up in the tray at all.

My Realtek manager just doesn't seem to be doing 5.1 at all. I click the DTS test and it does sub, left and right, as well as rear. Then when it does the center it does a little out of both left and right creating a virtual center...won't actually use my center. I go to YouTube tests and they don't even use my center or sub at all. The speakers do work fine when I use my receiver and by itself for Bluray movies and such.

I just want to be able to use passthrough with anything and everything on my computer if possible.

Any help?

Install k-lite Codec pack.
Then go to ffdshow audio config and select s/pdif with AC3 simple

Do not download K-Lite. It installs a lot of garbage codecs on your computer.

If you wish you can download FFDshow by itself and not have to track down any other damage or conflicts that would be caused by the dozens of codecs that K-Lite hacks together.

FFDshow isn't working at all right now. Installed it. WOuld not boot up for any media player. Wouldn't show in the tray even with it enabled. I don't know is there anyway to figure out driver conflicts?

k-lite dont installs a lot of garbage on your pc. Download it. Unless ^mr can proof what garbage but he won't be able to. drivers have nothing to do with direct show filters. So you can either install k-lite or wait for mr brown. But I gave you a working fix your choice

The location of the S/PDIF options depends on which decoder that you are using, either ffdshow or AC3Filter. The k-lite codec pack uses ffdshow by default.

ffdshow

In ffdshow audio decoder configuration, goto the "Output" page. There you can find checkboxes to enable S/PDIF pass-through for AC3 and DTS audio.
If you also want to send the audio from other audio formats to your receiver, then you need to enable the "AC3 (S/PDIF encodemode)" checkbox under "Supported output sample formats".
Only the audio that is processed by ffdshow will get re-encoded to AC3. If you also want ffdshow to process audio that has been decoded by a different DirectShow filter, then you need to go to the "Codecs" page in ffdshow configurationand set "Uncompressed" to "All supported".
AC3Filter
To activate S/PDIF output, enable the checkbox called "Use SPDIF" that is located on the "Main" tab.
All S/PDIF options in AC3Filter are located on the "SPDIF" tab.

If you want AC3Filter to process audio that was decoded by a different DirectShow filter, then you need to enable PCM on the"System" tab.

please dont talk bs. By your reply I can see you have never used k-lite codec pack or know how it looks like.
ffdshow is part of k-lite codec pack and not a individual project, just a little piece of that. Not more, nothing else, not independent just same project. Check up on your facts before writing something please.

I have used K-Lite and Shark Codec packs both.

You cause more problems than you fix with that crap.

For movies, just use VLC Media Player. No codecs needed.

This matrix and things you speak of fails miserably in my opinion.

you tell him not to download k-lite codec pack but then you tell him to download ffdshow?
Vlc is also a codec pack hence the big installer files. But it cant play windows media or realplayer. Only difference is you can have both on your system. I mean I dont think other codec packs have the troubleshoot or codec tool that k-lites got. You can backup, manage the source and directshow filters, generate a log, repair broken codecs everything with it. Which brings us back to the topic and thats how to pass thru AC3. SO What does vlc player or sharky codecs have to do with everything. If they can pass thru AC3 then advise how to do it and how to use it with sharky or vlc instead of talking crap. Youve googled k-lite wrong coz you went and look what people in the adobe forums said.

VLC uses no codecs. Therefore you have no conflicts.

FFDShow is part of K-LIte. If you install just FFDShow, you do not introduce 20 other codecs and programs you do not need. If you install one thing at a time, you can troubleshoot and reverse your steps easier.

Writing a blanket solution for things because it worked for you on your specific equipment does not get you praise or a cookie.

You write the same answers to totally different problems over and over again.

You are usually off topic because you simply want to have something to say.

The main problem I have first is that FFDShow isn't working at all. I just installed it to try to fix my passthrough problem already and it won't boot to any media player. This is really annoying...

Yes I have it set up right. Like I said there must be some codec conflict. Also Realtek is a piece of **** no matter how many times I try to do something involving that my PC screws up.
