IF the keyboard doesn't work in pre-windows environment, how could he get into BIOS using the keyboard?!!! or bios is somehow not considered pre-windows stage?

Asus boards bring you to the BIOS error page if it detects a fan-read error. Pressing F2 brings you into setup, which he is unable to do. Tapping delete is what we do to enter our BIOS if there isn't an issue.

It's all good, I just hope I'm on to something here. I hate not having a solution to a "broken" PC.

But, hey! pressing ctrl + alt + delete should reboot if the keyboard was working, no?

It could potentially force a reboot, but it would get stuck back at the "Press F2 for setup" screen he's currently stuck at. Asus boards will continue to halt at the error-stop screen unless you either disable whatever is tripping it, or disable the error-stop screen altogether. I honestly haven't used ctrl-alt-del in awhile outside of rebooting from either a boot-disk or virtual drive, so I can't answer that definitively.

Thread Starter
Thanks for the tip on the keyboard. I used a standard HP board and was able to reach bios. Still getting the system fan error and now a disk read error. I think I may have messed up the raid config somehow. There's no way I can lose all the info in these hdd's. What can I do?

EDIT: After running HP's PC Doctor, the Boot Path test failed. I suspect this is the disk read error I'm getting.

The error code is Error Code: BIOHD-4. Error Unitialized/Corrupt Boot Structure Detected.

PC Doctor suggests hitting F8 on boot and run "Fix Your Computer"

Only hitting F8 doesn't get me there because it goes right to the fan and disk read errors.

And this thread just leapt out of my field of expertise. You could always cross-post this into the harddrive forum and maybe you will get lucky!

HAF_wit has a good suggestion, try hitting the HDD area of the forums for some expertise.

Also, what are the chances that the board shorted out while you were switching everything around? I've seen it happen before, so it needs to be considered. Especially because there are multiple things that seem to be happening all at the same time (keyboard, fan, RAID failure). Also, you can try take out your RAM and other components and replugging in your cables to your board and to the HDD. Sometimes it is something small. I've had sound problems out the butt because my ToSlink cable came halfway out and the sound wouldn't work because the headphone adapter was plugged into the front of my home theater receiver. Just check 'em!

Another suggestion, and guys, I am out on a limb here, but maybe the IRQs for keyboard and his RAID setup are conflicting and setting things off.

GL on the RAID and HDD setup.
