If it is a free DLC than it isn't a DLC...we call those "updates" or "patches" in the world of video games, but I guess the term DLC may have evolved to cover any game content that you download. If they are talking about just game updates and stuff then this is very good news.

If BF3 has 21 DLCs that all cost $5-$15 then it could very likely cost more than a $10 monthly sub to get them all. EA hasn't given a price for them, but they haven't said they would be free yet either. If they are free I think that they would be screaming it from the tops of buildings. The word free is the most eye catching word in the English language. Though if there like some of the ones in BC2 where you can just pay to unlock weapons and such rather than getting points while playing...I don't want them.
By your definition, BC2 only had ONE DLC, and that was 15 bucks (Viet Nam). Everything else, the other 6 that were map-packs, were completely free of charge.

vagrant. BC2 did not have 7 updates that cost money.

DLC is downloadable content. It doesnt always involve money. I have no idea where you ever heard that silly idea.

could you be any more jaded about something you know nothing about.

If you want to QQ about release day DLC, go look at the Fable 3 page on Steam, 5 DLCs costing various amounts, that you can buy in addition to preordering the game.. lol

Adding insult to injury I guess, late to the PC release + charging for all the DLC... meh.

The Back to Karkand deal, wasn't part of the initial game. So it wasn't like they took part of the release game out and decided to charge extra for it (if you don't pre order) It was said that a separate team started working on it later. So really its like we are getting this much more content on release, rather than waiting several months for them to add it.

The whole paid DLC thing has gotten out of hand with a lot of games though, money grubbing tactics, etc. This doesn't seem to be the case with BF3. Obviously free content is nicer, but if they provide substantial, new, content they should be able to charge for it.

Sorry, I guess I assumed a DLC is like the DLCs for Dragon Age. You have to pay for each and every little one. None of them are free even when all they add is extra gift items for NPCs.

So is there a such thing as a game update now? Does a DLC really refer to any game content you can download over the Internet? I know I hear enough people complaining about BC2 on the Xbox with multiple DLCs costing Microsoft points and Microsoft points costing money and not a single complaint was about anything named Vietnam. So I don't have first hand knowledge...I should have just kept out of the thread, but yes; I assumed that every time DLC is mentioned there was a price tag involved because I've never seen anything firsthand that was called a DLC and was free.

DLC can be anything that adds to the game. Weapons, maps, hats (shudders), etc.

Updates are anything that actually changes something to the game's mechanics, drivers, etc.

The thing with XBox Live, you have to pay for EVERYTHING, even if other platforms have it for free. If you look, Left 4 Dead's content was all free on the PC, but MS being greedy, told Valve that they had to charge for the DLC on XBox Live.

The DLC (map-packs) for BC2 were free on both PS3 and the PC. Oh, there were 2 paid DLC's for BC2. One, which was new weapons SPECACT kit (reskinned weapons, not new ones with special features) for 5 bucks, and Viet Nam. The SPECACT kit added nothing but camo to the guns and uniforms, and essentially weapons that you could get Platinum stars on if you've already platted every other weapon. But it wasn't necessary to compete with anyone in the game.

Well there goes my order of this game if even half of these cost money, already $10 extra if I don't preorder? That is pretty sad when these companies keep doing this crap to make you preorder so you can deal with all the bugs and patches that come with it because they can't release a polished game. Have fun paying $100+ for this game after a few years guys.

lets see. bf 2 was $50 + Special forces expansion $30. EuroForce $10, Armored fury $10.

god forbid a developer supports their game for a couple years. i think we would all prefer to get a new one for full price the next year with identical content to what you already have.

I think he was making the same mistake as me. He is thinking that all the DLCs will cost money (which they might...we don't know yet). The only people I know who play BC2 play it on the Xbox and it appears that on Xbox live you do have to pay for them, but the DLC on PC for BC2 were free...if this goes the same way for BF3 then it will be nice to have all these DLCs.

I think there are alot of people assuming we will have to pay for all the DLCs...hence all the QQ

on the consoles. the map packs were free, unless you didnt buy the game new. if you bought it used, you had to buy a code.

Onslaught mode, which didnt get released on the pc, and the vietnam were the only cost ones.

The specacts skins were originally console only DR pepper codes, much later you were given the option to buy them.

Could the PC players of BC2 buy the Unlocking DLCs? That's it what I've heard so many complain about. If a person paid roughly $10 they could start with all the weapons for a kit unlocked...you could buy each separately or buy them all in a bundle. (I don't remember what the prices was, but it was around $10 a kit I think...sorry, I don't really listen all that much when a console gamer is complaining )

I am hoping DLCs like that are not included in the "three times as many" number.
